The ENLEUM HPA-23RM & HPA-23RMH Impressions and Discussion Thread

It has a true preamp mode, so no double amping, but the signal goes through the tube buffer and then to the 23RM via “line out”, but it is really a true pre-out. The only unit I came across that had this option is the M30, but sound wise the EA4 is a different planet (solar system..)
How does the overall sound change with adding ea4 in the chain and without it?

Wider soundstage, longer decays (I sometimes found the 23rm on the “dry” side), more “flow”. I love the sound signature and speed of the 23rm, but sometimes it feels that it runs out of breath, with the tube preamp it provides better continuity/flow whilst maintaining the attacks. I can’t perceive any detail loss, which is a testimony to the EA4.

Interesting! So what's your full chain look like in this context?

DAP line-out to EA4
EA4 pre-out to 23RM?
Which DAP?

Can't imagine I'll ever own an EA4 and a 23RM, but still curious to hear what other people are doing to push further!

It’s Ak SP3k 4.4mm output to EA4, EA4 3.5mm output to 23RM (either jack cable or 3.5mm to dual RCA).

One of the underestimated effect of tube preamp is to break the galvanic path to the DAC, the fast switching power supply of the 23RM generates massive RF pollution that travels upstream to the DAC. Another way to stop this is the Audiowise RF•STOP SE signal filter. This may be less relevant to desktop DACs that are better isolated against RF than DAPs.

Just purchased the 23RM. Really excited to hear how it sounds with the LCD-5.

I noticed a few nice leather cases here but I can’t find anything online. Any help finding out where to purchase would be appreciated!

Congrats on the purchase!
I got my leather case off eBay, a seller from China. I bet if you search eBay, you'll find them.
There may be other sellers elsewhere that I'm not aware of.
I am happy with my case. It's like a snug leather boot.
The HPA-23RM is such a satisfying little amp.
Enjoy!

Please post impressions once you have formed them. Very curious about that combo!

Unfortunately, none of the reviews mention the LCD-5, so I had to take a leap of faith. I don’t really have any amp experience but I’ll definitely report back, though.

I listened to the LCD-5, DCA Expanse and one other, I forget now, through the HPA-23RM, some time ago and I recall that, of the 3, the LCD-5 sounded the most well balanced. This was before I realised that high gain wasn't necessarily the best option for planars, but I'm sure you'll be happy with the pairing. Unfortunately, the LCD-5 was a bit too small for me.

Happy to hear that. Hopefully, I’ll be content for quite a while with my new setup.
