hehe yeah well not when you do it yourself it doesnt

I have plenty of jena wire here and I just bought the woodies last night and I bought the MD2000 used, so yeah I get out of it considerably cheaper than D7000 about $575-$625USD including shipping in the end; is what it will have cost me with a lawnton audio, blackwood cupped MD2000 with 18AWG jena (mark uses 22AWG) and a furutech earsuit 1/4" connector or maybe i'll make it balanced and make a short XLR->1/4" convertor. I'll go by your recommendation HA; I will go with a 4-5' cable. I was thinking 3-3.5 but that would be for portable use and still long enough when I have my rig right next to my keyboard. but if I make it 4.5-5' I guess I can just coil up the excess when i'm using it transportable; which TBH probably wont happen that often. more for holidays and plane travel

MD2000 DE with Jena does not cost nearly that much (starts at ~$800). A LA2000 which also includes our wood cups as well as Jena cable and markl mod starts at around $1050.

well it actually doesnt cost more. if you were to add a jena labs cable to the stock D7000 it would be more than these options. the only difference between the D2000 and D5000 is the D5000 has woodcups (not as good as the lawnton audio ones) and a slightly better cable. the drivers are the same and so is the rest of the headphone. it has been argued that the D2000 markl mod (wood cups) sounds better than a D5000 even before the cable upgrade. so add the cable upgrade to a MD2000 and you IMO and from my personal experience end up with a better sounding headphone than a jena cabled stock D5000. plus you can choose your sound signature preference to some degree by choosing the type of wood that suits your music tastes. I havent heard re D7000 so I cant comment there and apparently they do use a new driver design, but whether it sounds better than a fully loaded jena recabled MD2000 remains to be seen and certainly doesnt look as nice thats for sure

I've been thinking about re-cabling my D7000's, but the stock chord is pretty solid already. I'm not sure if a re-cable would make a palpable difference to my rather inexperienced ears. It's all still very tempting though.

Quick question for those who've compared the D5000 and D7000 - from a strictly physical/fit point of view are they different? The D5000 headband was a little too large and the cans sat loose on my head - lack of clamping was not so much an issue, as was the fact that the cups sat too low relative to my ears. Is the D7000 the same or is the headband smaller perhaps?

The D7000 headband is more of a U-shape, a la the RS1, and applies a little more clamping force than the D5000s (though "clamping force" perhaps overstates it; really more of a gentle hug). They're a much better fit for my own modest melon.

best,

I got my D5000s to clamp a bit better by setting them sideways in a cardboard box (carefully) and then putting the weight of my EMU 0404 USB on top of the box overnight. Now they fit just about right and don't fall off when I lean forward (Although they could if I got moving around too much).

Hear hear...have long thought this. I believe it feeds some audiophiles's need to mod more than anything else.

I didn't find the bass on the D2000 or the D7000 to have any bloat in the bass. That is until I compared the Grado 325i to the D2000. Either the Grado has very lean bass or the D2000 has some bloat.

I personally think the Denon has natural sounding bass and the Grados are lean. If it weren't for a direct comparison I wouldn't have noticed.

i have ah-d5000 (stock)and i just love them. can't think of anything wrong.
everything is just right, the bass and the treble. it all depends on the music and the gear ofcourse..and with the headroom ultra micro stack they sound amazing! the bass was maybe a little bloated at first, but after some burn in it disappeared(or maybe i just got used to it).
if the ah-d7000 is even better (although i cant think of something, unless its diferentely another sound signature...like the new hd-800 for example) than
oh mama! it is really close to perfection.
the ah-d5000's treble is really peircing sometimes (but in the good audiophilic way) so i cant imagine the ah-d2000 sound..yack! i am glad i didnt went for the d2000 (not offending all you d2000 owners ofcourse
regular_smile .gif
)
because i really had a dillema between the two before getting the d5000.
but the d5000 treble is REALLY enough.

If you think the D5000 treble is too much, then you'll hate the D7000.

i guess..the ah-d5000 treble is just on the spot for me, also the bass..strong but not too much imo.
