the search must end someday, and mine ended for the near (or far)future.
you can always better things..and new and better cans will come out all the time.

Bravo.

I feel the same way. I have a lot of fun doing the research, the auditions, and the comparisons.

But finally, I make a choice, and stick with it.

I've decided on the 7000's. As soon as I get them, I believe I'll switch from searching for HP's, to listening to music.

Same thing with cameras. I had a blast comparing, pricing, trying. Lots of fun. Finally decided on a sweet DSLR, and built a nice arsenal of lenses. Once that was done, there ws no more internet research, no more forums, no more camera shops. I was done. Just photography.

I've listened to a lot of headphones and after Charlotte meet I got to listen to many new headphones and try out stuff that is priced high enough you could get a nice speaker rig (including source and amp) for less than the price of the headphones.

If you've found "your sound" in the Denons, I doubt you are going to find anything else that improves on them in a way that makes you want to replace them.

About the only headphone I heard at the meet that really caught my interest was the ATH-W5000. It wasn't so much a contender as just a fantastic contrast to the Denons. It was brighter, bass-lite (compared to the Denons), and very different all around. At the same time, it was musical, fun, and sweet sounding without being clinical. It would be nice to own both.

Of course, the W5000 fit my head. A lot of people have trouble with that.

I suppose the HD800 might be contender. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I am lucky. I found "my sound" in that sense for a mere $180.
