The Continuation Of The Sony Walkman 1Z/1A Thread!

Why Sony moved to Android, I will never understand. The original Signature Walkmans are great, timeless products.
I think they moved to Android to save on development costs. Since that have a lot of other products based on Android they can shrink to a single Android kernel team instead of having to have their closed Linux OS.

Probably correct.

The newer Sony Walkman models are not the first Walkmans with Android. Sony did Android-based Walkmans in parallel with the proprietary ones for a bit (see: NW-Z1000 series from 2012 and the F series in 2013 which was the Z replacement).

And the ZX1 and ZX2 2013-15

Forgot about those. I still have my Z1070, F807, and ZX1 floating around here somewhere.

IMO Sony NOT using Android proper on the NW-WM1A and NW-WM1Z series initally is more of a depature of where they were going. Don't get me wrong, I like my WM1A but I didn't thnik the Android ones that came before it were bad by any stretch.

No I liked my ZX2 but much prefer the SonyOS based ones since I purely want a dap for playing local files

I only ever use a DAP when travelling. At home I use components (varies dependent on room) and usually physical media.

To me, at the end of the day, whether it was one of the Android ones or the WM1A (which I have as well), it's about the app playing the music and the Sony experience to me has been pretty much the same whether it was the SonyOS or Android. I like the WM1A but am considering getting the new A307 to replace it. Why?
1. The A series is more portable. The WM1A is ... chunky.
2. It's been six(ish) years since the WM1A was introduced so arguably it will sound close or maybe even better. I generally only use the 3.5mm jack.

Price wise it'd be a wash for what I could sell the WM1A for.

My daps are used on location while travelling, on the go I use BT iem and my iPhone and at home my main rig

As the battery saver is a software setting, if your player is charged to full while off it would charge to 100%?

I know this is crazy, but has anyone tried to run a pair of ZMF’s off these?
The output impedance is very low for Sony DAPs, I don't know but I am pretty sure the result is not good. I need to buy a 6.3 to 3.5 adapter to try my own, but I probably wont for sure.

I would not be running full size headphones off these. At a stretch, high sensitivity cans like MDR-Z1R are ok, but not optimal. However, if you're ok with compromised sound quality - good as it may be - then it should be fine.
