The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)

After almost a week struggling with Wifimedia, explaining them the lack of obligation to pay taxes where I live, and waiting a lot for their email replys (had to insist a lot about), I realized that they didn't have any interest to sell me the AH-D9200 (is something that happens sometimes to Canary islands people when we try to buy something from outside of our comunity, even from the rest of Spain) and yesterday I said to them to forget about the order...

Today, I ordered the Denons from a spanish web shop (1299 € = 1088,55 € -without taxes- shipping included) and now is time to wait for the possible customs (yes, although we are from Spain we have to pay customs - if the customs office stop the package to inspection -)... Maybe I get them by the end of next week or the beginning of the other due to the christmas period.

Obviously, I'll post my early impressions about them here... after all this waiting nightmare
I'm just as excited to hear that you're about to get your hands on the AH-D9200, buddy! You've been waiting for this headphone for quite some time now. I hope the headphones arrive before Christmas; it'll be a nice gift for yourself! :)

@bythebookiii I hope you find them comfortable :beerchug: I'm very interested in your impressions, given that you have tried Denon AH-D9200 and you have the Z1R to compare :relaxed:
Of course my friend. I'm gonna be even more patient this time. Hopefully in a week I'll share some impressions.!

Sorry to hear that... I know that sometimes smaller shops are reluctant regarding tax issues -- they don't know how to handle that and would have to ask their tax consultant, who may bill them for handling the issue etc. And they might have to research shipping options if their default shop does not support your destination. Nevertheless they could be more upfront about not wanting your business instead of dragging things along of course.

On the other hand 1088,- sounds like a good deal -- looking forward to your impressions!

Out of curiosity, I note that you are a new member of the forum, but are you also a new audiophile? If so, that's some good, top-level gear that you've amassed, thus far. :)
Hi @Malevolent ,

Nope, card-carrying Audiophilia Nervosa sufferer since about 1998, I think. 😔

Got hooked with a pair of entry-level PSB stand mounts, a Cambridge Audio amp, and a NAD CD player. It’s been all downhill since... Now I’ve continued the Brit-fi trend with a Naim XS integrated driving a pair of Tannoy Precision 6.2s, with a Schiit Gungnir MB as my Swiss Army knife digital source (including head-fi).

Pretty much at end-game state for me unless something breaks, sans the LCD-XC cable update.

Which means that every birthday and Christmas I’ll be spending a lot of money on music, which was what it was all about in the first place... 😆

I have a question for those of you who use a closed back headphone with Bluetooth. I have a couple of pairs I use for watching TV in bed when the wife is asleep and I am not crazy about either pair, Sony WH1000XM3 and Sennheiser PXC550. I need a closed back so there is no leakage and marital bliss can be achieved. I am not as concerned as much about price as I am about fit and sound quality.

I am not crazy about the Sony's as the Bluetooth is mediocre at best and I find the cups to be a bit small. The Senns have a worse fit for my head, cups are smaller than the Sonys, and I am not crazy about how they are powered on and off. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My current preference for wireless is the Shure Aonic 50, very balanced and, to me at least, very comfortable.

That white looks even better than in the photos!
I want various photos without the plastic

At the end, on Saturday Wifimedia said me that they had to calculate the shipping costs (and when the taxes were included in the order, shipping was free), that was the thing that made me forget about buying there.

Yes, it's 1088 €, but if the customs office inspect the package I will have to pay our local taxes (7 %) and a little money to pay the inspection... Hope the package will not be stopped, because there are a lot of traffic these days (and more because of the pandemic). Anyway, at most it would be 1180 €.

I think is better to buy in Spain for possible returns... But I hope to love them like most of you do, after all the time I have been waiting :L3000:

Fantastic! I've ordered a pair as well...... I'm looking forward to seeing how they compare to my red ones. Your pictures are motivating me to get a cable. :)

This is good to hear, my SA50's literally just arrived yesterday from Amazon. Haven't had a chance to toss 'em on yet though.

I figured I'd need a good pair of traveling HP's, since there's no way my MKII's are leaving the house.

Looking forward to your impressions! It'll certainly be helpful to anyone who's deciding between the AH-D7200 and its bigger brother. :)
I'm on it, my friend.
It's a long journey to cover all my selected tracks for a serious comparison. :)
The Mojo is running out of juice the 2nd time. ^^
Will be back at you this evening/ maybe tomorrow in the morning.
I swear. :L3000:

They're in the house🤗
Very positive first impressions, like a closed version of Ultrasone Edition 15, less shimmer than the likes of ATs, Denon, not to mention old Beyers as you all know by now.
Thing is though, i believe they've made a masterpiece here,i remember AK t5s, those were weak.
True, a tad more treble wouldn't go amiss, but i don't miss any details, it's all there and the point is, you can listen all day. I recently got Philips X3, very trebly can, i am happy with those as much as I'm happy with T5s, one is bass monster with non fatiguing treble, X3 is very little sub bass, tons of treble.
And bass, OMG, sooo deep, so right, a tad softer than 9200, but if like me you're into electronic or any well recorded bass including live or acoustic, both cans are the ticket, id never be able to choose🙃🙂
So, there, whoever moaned and strongly didn't recommend these, but recommended dt1990..... common, really??
Btw, wore these for 8hours in the studio yesterday and they were as brilliant a tool, Beyers have always been, voices and music came through with a comfort and high resolution with zero discomfort, so well made, soft, beautiful earpads!
