I've owned my HiFi M8 for 2-3 years and have two questions. Though I've been subscribed, I haven't noticed updates on these:
1. There was a need for update on some high res files and it was unclear if CEntrance could fix it. Has this happened?
2. I still am looking for a form fitting case to transport my M8 in my daily bag without too much bulk, but I'm always worried about the knob and other parts getting damaged. What's the best practice for this?

This little camera case from Lowpro has worked for me.  The iPhone that I use as a DAP fits as well.

Centrance was not able to fix the high res issue. Bottom line, Apple does not allow anything higher than 24bit / 48khz out of the lightning jack directly without a CCK. So if you want to use the direct lightning-usb input, can't upload 24/96 or 24/192.

There was discussion that even 24/48 can't be played properly by the iPhone without CCK - that it downgrades to 16/48 on the fly. But it will at least play those songs (ie. Directly from music app in iPhone)...

Or just get the Skyn instead if you don't need optical or balanced output for hi-res playback.
