The Car/Motorcycle/Motorsport/Anything fast enough to do something stupid in thread!

Oh yeah. 0-100kph as quick as most sports cars

Hopefully this year's car will be even quicker since there's a bit of effort going into making it even lighter.

Fingers crossed we'll compete in Germany next year.

This is the first time in my life I have seen and even heard of Formula SAE (that I remember anyway), and I have to say that... they look cute! Like baby F1 cars or something!

Kawasaki raised the price of the ZX-14 for their new 2010 model $1300. Other than color changes, it has absolutely no differences over my 2008 model.
Because I bought my 2008, in 2009, I paid $10,600 for what was $12,100 in 2009 version. So basically, the difference between the 2008 and 2010 is $2,800 and it is the same bike (except for color choices). This is a combo of the difference between the Yen and the US dollar and the need to charge more for a current year model.

Yamaha, who is projected to lose $1.8 billion this fiscal year, has raised the price of their VMAX $2000, even though there are 2009 leftovers in every dealership. Get a 2008 and be happy with what you got.

Pretty nice looking. I'm sure it's an excellent performer. Honda hasn't put out a loser in a long time.
I think that I would prefer the ZX-10 or 14 over it, though.

They're essentially big go-karts. We're one of the few teams with an aero package, so thats why our car looks like an F-1 racer more than others.

Official SAE international website.

NSX, is that the same as formula student?
I've just started at swansea and want to get involved, but they don't seem to keen to let us 1st years do much.
Where/what do you study?
That's the 1st one of these (if its a formula student car) with wings, you're very lucky to have a wind tunnel, does it make a big difference in a car of this class, those wings look huge for a car so small.

Well, the wings need to be that big because of the relatively low speeds that we race at, so to get anything meaningful downforce wise they need to be that size. The wind tunnel is very useful as it allows us to compare with CFD data (which is often rubbish). Where the aero package really shines is in the hillclimbs we do after F-SAE competition.

There's a big debate as to whether F-SAE cars should run aero packages or not. My personal feeling is that, designed right, there's no reason not to run one.

Here's an interesting article on low-speed aerodynamics: http://www.sm-designs.co.uk/pdfs/solowings.pdf

Yep, formula student is just another name for F-SAE. We don't really have 1st years on our team (only the 1), but I'm sure if you're persistent they might let you in.

I study Aerospace Engineering. Which uni is pretty obvious

Suppose I should've realised the reason for the big wings, seems like they'd have a big effect on drag, but by the looks of it the actual competition doesn't have any elements where top speed would drastically effect your competetivness.
Bet its very fun to drive, fastest thing I've ever driven is a 1.2 Corsa

My excuse for not noticing the uni is that I looked at the pics on the computer and then replied on my phone without looking at the pics again

I study mechanical engineering (foundation year) at swansea.
