The best of both worlds, the iTunes interface with foobar as a backend.

The passthrough feature doesn't work for me with iTunes 6.0.0.18 or iTunes 6.0.1.3 and foobar2000 v0.83. After checking the Multi-Plugin foobar2000 passthrough box a window pops up with the warning that foobar2000 is not installed. Since passthrough was the only feature that interested me I uninstalled Multi-Plugin.

Is the main advantage of foobar its 18 band EQ?

I did this and it changed the interface of iTunes, but I don't really mind. But I can't really make any EQ settings that sound all that good. I've tried messing around with them for a while, but nothing seems to work well. I guess I might as well just listen to my music without EQ.

Wow great tip.

All my tracks on PC are Apple lossless and though Foobar sounds a bit better I prefer the itunes interface. I added the extras for foobar to play apple a while back but the track info was a little erratic but it plays OK.

Installed and set the plugin (it did grumble about version so I upgraded) and once set to passthru it worked first time.

I can see the usage of asio from the patchmix so it's definitely working.

Just curious if it's just me.

No it isn't just you. When I read "Foobar" I also assumed FLAC and OGG would work. Apparently not.

The main function of Multi-Plugin is to skin iTunes. You can change it back to the default skin if you want.

Might want to give it another try, perhaps try resinstaling foobar.

Is it just me or does foobar sound quiet different from iTunes?

Maybe it's just because I've been listening exclusively from my iPod for a few weeks, but now my computer seems WAY more bassy. It now seems much more bassy than listening just through iTunes, but this could just be my perception since I haven't actually listened through iTunes in a week or two. I actually am starting to see why people say my Super.fi 5EB's are too bassy for most types of music (but I really like the extra bass with Rap). Anyways, I think I'm liking the foobar passthrough even though I can't find a good EQ (so I'm using it flat). I think it could also be due to the fact that I am using a Radioshack volume adjuster to help supress my computer's annoying hiss out of the headphone port. It seems that I am unable to adjust the volume using the foobar passthrough, nothing seems to lower my volume except my computer's actual volume adjustments (which would have to be as low as possible to listen without the Radioshack adjuster).

Well, my PA2V2 should be getting back to me soon (w/lowered gain), so I'll be using that with my iPod anyways.

To me theres no audible difference between itunes and foobar. Then again, I am using onboard sound at the moment. The biggest difference for me is the fact that playback through fobar is much less succeptable to skipping or such that occurs pretty regularly in iTunes. In addition I like useing crossfades when skipping tracks etc, and foobar allows me to do that in the directsound 2 plugin. Usualy, I find that when something seems more bassy I usualy just have the volume up higher than normal.

BTW, the volum in iTunes still works for me.

That quote is one of the things that is displayed when I enabled the foobar passthrough. I assumed it would mean the iTunes volume control would not work. Also, the foobar volume control will not save it's setting, once I close the foobar preferences window it just goes back to full volume. I am using iTunes version 6.0.0.18 by the way.

There is a plugin foo_alac which is supposedly a little unstable. I've used one of the later 0.8 releases of foobar for a while now as the first time I tried 0.9 I had a few hiccups. Not tried it since as it all seems to work I stopped fiddling.

I just selected the iTunes files in foobar and got them to play OK but some of the files don't display the information on the track correctly.

The change is sound is quite noticeable for me.

Now what we need is a .cue file reader for iTunes, then I'll be totally satisfied
