the BEST AKG K1000 system you have ever heard.

well I dont really have much experience with them, but FWIR the only experience I have had (sig 30.2) is a good one and I have to agree that this noise was one of the best that I have ever heard. if it gets better than that I would think it would be marginal. even with it only being fed with an IMOd and teflon VCAP dock, it was very very impressive, so soundstageous it was unbelievable. I did find however that the soundstage was slightly indeterminate. HUGE!! but a little unfocused. this may have been more to do with weakness in the source than anything else though. only thing other than that I would like is to have had a subwoofer in the room as well

I listen my K1000 with A.R. cd3 mk2, A.R. LS 25, Audio Note Conqueror. But the best sound with amplifier MegaHertz 2A3 ( unfortunately not my, for now...) built to work with K1000..

That MegaHertz amplifier looks beautiful! Which output transformers are those? Audio Note double C cores?

my favorite amp pairing was a moth amp (can't remember which model) that was in the k1000 room at the san jose national meet a couple years ago. don't recall what the source was, either. but this amp drove the k1000s so beautifully it drove me to pick up a pair of k1000. also in the room that day was an f1, an aleph, and a couple of others...but none made an impression on me like that moth amp. anyone know what model that was?

I like it alot of my phonitor, dead neutral, very satisfying bass, and no frequencies are upsetting in any way. I would love to hear KrMathis' system, Isabellina definetly looks fantastic.

All transformer are MegaHerz.
Each amplifier can be built on request, to the specifications requested by the owner, as the output to 120 ohms for K1000...

I usd to run my K-1000 off a Conrad-Johnson MV-52 power amp. It's got about 45W and runs EL34s in push-pull. A sweet, warm amp with good sound that translated well to the K-1000. You can find them used from $700-$1,000, and they make a nice speaker amp, too. I enjoy it with the ProAc Response 2.5 clones and the Quad ESL-63s. They come up for sale every so often, but usually get picked up fast. There aren't too many decent tube amps at this price.

However, I've run the K-1000 off the Moth Si2A3 since I got it last year. The Si2A3's speaker taps put about 3W into the K-1000 with a SET topology and DC on the filaments. It gives a magical sound to the mids - just perfect for the acoustic jazz, classical and roots music I love these with.

However, it's tough to find a used Moth. They only come up once every 12-18 months and go fast. I'd recommend tracking down another 2A3 amp - I think I like the 2A3 better than the 300B for headphones. There's something very right about its sound.

I haven't heard one yet, but you might want to see if anyone has impressions of the K-1000 on Eddie Current's new ZDT. It has 8W on its speaker taps, which should be ideal for the K-1000.

None of us have received our ZDT yet, but I am hoping for the best when it arrives for my K1000. I was quite disappointed that the ZDT didn't make it to CanJam last weekend - part of my reason for going was to hear a ZDT which I ordered in March.

K1000 owner #10493

cary 805c monoblocks/rega p9 tt/au24 interconnects-the best

marantz 2270 reciever/oppo741cd and theta gen3 dac/au24 inteconnects- second

cary 300sei with either frontend -third

for the money the marantz 2270 reciever for 300$ is a fantastic deal matches well with the k1000 powerful bass /3d imaging/beautiful detailed highs

cary 805c monoblocks are better ,but cost around 4000$

I would investigate any of the vintage marantz recievers in the 22## series from the 1970's

It wasn't the best I'd ever heard, but I really liked the K1000 I had once and the one jjcha had out of his Grace m902. It really added a lot of gentle softness to them, which is necessary for me as I'm often overpowered by their sharp detail.

I was very pleasantly surprised at the superb sound from my K1Ks with the now unavailable Little Dot T_150 amp. With the Telefunken tubes, it is beautifully balanced with very sweet highs.

It is hard for me to imagine any significant improvement regardless of price.

I found the K1000's a perfect match with Charlize - better than any tube setup I'd heard them with (though I never had the opportunity to try the K1K's with a SET amp)

Perhaps somewhat against the received wisdom of SET being where it is at for the K1000 I found the Mactone MA-300B drove the them to nirvana and back. 23W in push pull using four 300Bs; EH Golds in the Mactone I used, imparted all the 300B magic plus a good wallop of grunt. Muscle in a velvet glove.

Sadly, after almost 6 weeks with it I had to give it back on Friday past.
