Hey guys, is it just me or the M100, Amperior all sounds terrible to my ears? The only listenable headphones where the M4U1, DT1350 and ESW9a. The rest either had a really distorted midrange or awfully boomy bass.

If I did get the Q40's and did't want to go full potato with the alpha pads, what are some other, less expensive pads that would be compatible?

I've tried 10+ pads on them - a few to try-

Shure 840 - $12
HiFiMan Pleathers $20
Beyer velours - $forget
Beyer black gels - $40 from Germany
Beyer clear gels - not available but on used market

I didn´t find the mid on the M-100 to be distorted or grainy, I found them pretty clear and with nice instrument separationin fact, but with very recessed mids. I used to EQ these lowering the bass in between 5 and 8db depending on the use.

Which of those were the best in your opinion?

The Beyer black gels. GREAT seal and comfort, followed by the HiFiMan pleathers, then Shure 840's. The gels are reputedly no longer available as told to me by the Beyer folks.

completely agree with Craigster. The M100 are a lot mclearer than the Q40. I think most wpeople would say the same. The Q40s are nice, but their build quality was simply meh in my opinion and they lacked something. When I listened to the Q40s I really enjoyed the bass. When I listen to the M100s I really enjoy music.

You guys should hear them with Alpha pads. I've had them side by side. Sold the overhyped one. And comfort comparison? You can't even try an aftermarket pad on them and the day an XL pad comes out is the day they still are uncomfortable.

This is the BASSHEAD club, not the detail club by the way......

I have yet tried the Q40 but IMO the Amperior and M100 sounded very bad to me. (Compared to Westone 4R) the distortion in the midrange is indescribable! So what Oregonian said has a point! If u one overall sound quality, you are looking the wrong direction, this is the basshead club to look for good bass dats all. Best basshead can I have heard so far? Fostex TH-600. Yet test te 900s.

Hey guys. I'm a basshead that loves funky soul electronic music like glitch hop, and others like GRiZ Grammatik Pretty Lights and so forth

looking for a headphone, amp combo under $200 that would get the best bass and sound out of the music.

If you really recommend something more than $200, feel free to suggest. That is just my starting budget

Under $200 for the combo, I would suggest auditioning Monster N-Tune and pairing with FiiO E11.

Whatever you do, I would reccommend the ZO2. I absolutely love mine. It can give my $10 Monoprice 8320's some pretty satisfying bass. It's not quite enough for me, but I am currently in the process of remedying that.
