I've kinda settled on the DT770/80 for full size at the moment. They deliver everything I need, soundstage, mid - treble clarity and detail and most of all DAT SUB BASS in high quality and with some good EQ:ing, quantity aswell. They work well with most genres, especially with EDM and heavy metal, which are my go-to genres.

I hope best buy has them on stand; I defintely wanna try them out.

Probably wont be able to buy them till another year later, dont want to break my personal policy of a headphone every 2 years. Hopefully they're still in stock by then.

In terms of bass impact and sound staging, which of these is the best: Q40, DT770 or V Moda LP?

Those pioneers look interesting but I am always skeptical about buying something that doesn't have a lot of reviews.

There is very little talk about the AKG K181DJ but the price is 100$ and they seem ideal for portable use! Has anyone tried these before? They even have a bass boost switch

Get the K181's for basshead bliss ; )

Or even better, my ZOMO HD1200 (see my sig). I prefer them over the Q40's. Read my whole review in the sale.

K181s are too uncomfortable and the bass is too boomy for my tastes. Q40s have less bass in total but there is less mid bass and more sub bass compared to the K181s.

Exactly. And the German brand ZOMO HD1200 has more mid bass and more sub bass than the Q40's, being is the TIGHTEST I've heard. And the mids still as good and the treble's better than the Q40's (more natural, treble's too "dry" on the Q40's to my taste).

sony xb800 or xb700 better choice?

btw: today i bought the philips downtowns. Who the hell put them on the list? they should be on the trebleheads fanclub list, as they produce no kind of bass, mids and treble are everything they do!

The Shibuya does a better job of producing mid-bass, but the Downtowns aren't really bass shy - they just aren't bass monsters. They certainly are better at producing the low-end than say, the M50 (but most cans on the basshead list do that, anyway). Still, they definitely are a nice detailed can (for its price), and benefits quite well from amping.
