dammit! just ordered a pair of X1 from the amazon gold box deal (was $160USD shipped to australia)!
 
i probably should have saved the money and put it towards a pair of planar headphones instead (ie. LCD3)...but i couldn't resist!
 
not that much discussion on them in here, but i hope they're good! will be my first pair of open headphones.

:3 im new here but i had dt 990's with a e10 i think i spent like 224.. for both.. i need more bass but loved the 990's sound amazing any ideas for a set of phones around that price that sound as good as 990's with alot more bass like super low for heavy metal breakdowns and dubstep drops? help please XD i also game but just like dota and league bf4 dont really care about that though need my bass fix! asap

get a Zo2 Amp and try that with ur DT 990 first

The DT770 is what you are looking for. They have the same drivers as the DT990, but they're closed cans instead of open. The DT990 does have a brighter sound though. If you want more bass, get the DT770 80 Ohm. (The DT990 doesnt have an 80 Ohm version, I am aware of this) It is the more bassy of the DT770 versions. If you end up wanting the DT770 to sound brighter, you can remove the little foam cap on the back of the driver that the DT990 doesn't have.

i was thinking of getting the dt 770's 80ohm i had to send my 990's back cause the left driver kept going out :/ very sad i also sent the e10 back <.< didnt really like the e10 thinking of just getting a amp and no dac for now

what kinda bass boost amp can i get cant be to expensive though XD and are the 770m 80ohms the same i see those for 173 on amazingzon so that leaves me with 51 bucks i can get a few bucks but not sure how many im still starting out i just need the bass and i play them off my laptop

When I had my pair of DT770 80's I got by with a Fiio E6. $25 on Amazon. I only used them at work, but they powered them just fine. There's a bass boost feature on it, but it isn't the greatest. But for $25 it's an amazing value.

I ordered a pair of ATH-M50s last week and just got around to opening them up today and doing the detachable cable mod to them. I only bought these to sell (I had some Amazon credit that I wanted in my PayPal account instead of stuck on Amazon).
 
While I had them opened up for the detachable cable mod, I put Dynamat on the inside of the cup and cut a hold in the foam padding that's normally against the back of the cup. I had thought about doing this the last time I had some M50's but ended up not doing it. It made the mids come out a little more, there is actually MORE Bass, and more treble. I did that mod to the left cup before I did it to the right cup to see if I could hear a difference, and to decide if I wanted to reverse it or not. I liked what I heard and did the right cup as well (obviously Haha). If anyone has some M50s I HIGHLY recommend you try this, keep the padding you cut out just in case you want to put it back.
