The all new Continental Dual Mono

It's a really great device, and I think it's very underrated. I confess that I am a little bit involved in this myself. When the LE version was available, I took it for review with only stock tubes, and I was frankly not impressed. I mean, I felt that it was quite a high level, but not something extra. So I also didn't understand the hype about it, and I wrote about it in the review.
And then almost a year later I got it from a friend with good tubes. And it was a completely different device, a completely different thing. Then after a while I convinced him to sell me the device. Then I had to sell it and my tube collection a few times myself, but now I finally got it back again and have an ambitious goal to expand my tube collection. It's really very interesting.

Ok, if anyone is interested, I am still selling some tubes from my collection to continue the search. Including something extremely rare.

However, here are a few more things that no one has really tried to use for CDM.

The first, of course, needs some changes. I've said before that I use my CDM at home on a table with a fully open design. This involves the absence of top and side panels - something like a cabriolet.

However, I put together a custom battery pack that seems to be of better quality than the stock battery (maybe it has worn down a bit over the years) as it doesn't show much voltage drop.
In addition, they allow a little more space for installing lamps beyond the traditional submini dimensions of 10mm in diameter and 40mm in length.

So, the first tube I wanted to install and try a long time ago is the Brimar CV4051. A military dual triode that is not a submini, but is made with flexible legs. This made its use possible, although it was very difficult to figure out how to unsolder it, but this idea haunted me for several days.

As for the sound, it justified itself. Powerful deep bass, which can be very massive, but at the same time it is rather monitor-like in nature. The sound is generally not dry, it has enough weight, but it is well balanced, so it will not work to call it frankly wet. It's a beautifully textured frequency response capable of capturing both electronics and live instruments.
It's a really good tube that demonstrates well why it's worth looking into. Until recently, it was the main one for me and I am now returning to it. Similar to the Sonotone 6021, but with more weight and emotion.

The second tube, which has also pleased me a lot in recent days, is the General Electric AF-5902A.
Fortunately, GE's AF versions of the tubes are not too difficult to find, and are a worthy development of the brand's famous 6111/6112 tubes. Here, the sound is cleaner and more neutral, but it conveys textures well and has a low noise level. So it gives a clear and spacious sound with a wide stage.1000039773.jpg
Try CV3986; then we are talking

Yes, I know about these Mullard tubes. They are more relaxed, and give less separation, depth and width to the stage compared to the Brimar CV4051.

I don't really believe it will work, but it seems some CDM owners have managed to do it recently, so why not give it a try.

If any of you have a pair of Mullard 6112 or Sonotone 6111/Sonotone 6112 to sell please let me know.
Thank you.

I thought you sold ur CDM already?
I had to do it due to some circumstances, but I am still faithful to him. So I jumped at the chance to buy it again. So now I'm rebuilding my tube collection. And hopefully I won't have to sell my CDM again.

I am enjoying your CDM as well as all of the tubes you sent and we have swapped back and forth over the past few months. May us hardcore CDM users continue to prosper :)

Well, I fire up my CDM last week...
Tried out my S24 Ultra as transport to CDM Older Wolfson DAC....surprisingly nice tubey sound.
Even better with SR35 as transport..Using Quobuz, I see Red, Green, Blue light corresponding to hi rez....resolution
Much better than Cell as transport....very quiet...

Tried iBasso DX300MAX Ti as transport, but I saw only Red pops up only...No Green or Blue ? That's odd. However, it is very quiet too....

Used EE Odin....I felt much better than Noble Sultan....

Looking for my extra CDM, CV5 tubes stashing somewhere in the house....

What tubes are you currently using in your CDM?

Presumably, the red color is related to the incorrect operation of the bitrade display source. I do not think that the source will convert the signal and give it in a lower quality. I've seen similar things with some early AKs, etc. There is sound, everything works and you can't complain about the quality, but only the red indicator lights up. So I don't worry about it)

I picked up a CDM a few months ago and it has been my go-to amp at my desk both at home and at work. Going to send some photos as soon as I can figure out how this thing works
@JimmyL92 I think it is because you are still a brand new member... you may need to post a handful of times in order to receive permission to post photos. I remember this being a thing :)

For now, I can post your photo... oo another Black CDM! I like it!

Post more so you can post more photos for us!
