Bit the bullet and bought the K7XX, pretty excited! This will be my first open pair of headphones, with my other pair of headphones being a pair of V-Moda M80's. Needless to say, these are going to be doing Music and

Now I just need to look into buying an AMP/DAC combo. Leaning towards the Schiit Magni2 + Modi2 stack, just trying to decide whether or not I should buy the Uber versions of both... Can anyone give me some input on that? Would be appreciated, thanks!

I just came into a lot more money than I thought I was going to. Are these K7xx better than the K12pro in any way?

probably more similar than different. seems redundant to have both to me.

Well I was asking cause if the K12 sounded better I'd just get those instead. If these sound the same for the most part then I'll just save myself the money.

I do need to buy a new speaker amp to replace this Topping VX1 though

Redundancy is redundant. Absolutely no reason to have both.

I was wondering, are there any other headphones in the $200 range that would compete with the K7XX. I've got 14 hrs until I decide whether or not to pull the trigger on these.

k7xx has really great performance at the $200 price point. the k702 65th annies that they are based on gets compared to the other mid-fi classics such as the hd600 & hd650 that are at a much higher price point.

however, of course, there is sound sig preferences that factor into how much you will enjoy em. overall, i personally think it is a great value for sonic quality.

That is of course always the case... I, for one, don't like the HD600/650 much as its simply too laid back for my taste. That does not make them bad headphones by any measure, just not my cup of tea. The same holds true for the K7XX, though I think it has an easier to like signature than the old K701/702 models. I still think the K7XX is an outstanding deal at 200,-

Q701, hahaha!

No, seriously, that's it.  The other headphones that can compete with it are DT880-600ohm or headphones that are several times more expensive.

About the only ones that come to my mind are also AKG, the K612, K702, and Q701.  The memory foam earpads used on the K7XX are thought to contribute much to their higher bass response and sound quality.  Buying these earpads from AKG will set you back $48 EACH so if you consider this headphone "like the K702/Q701 with memory foam earpads", you are really talking about at least a $300 headphone for $199.

I think these are going to be hard to beat for $300...  maybe some of the Beyers and the Philips X2 comes to mind, whenever it's in stock, but some reviewers say the Q701 is a fair match for those so...   Between $300 and $400?  You have the K712 and the HD600/650 to deal with but even then it's not so cut and dried.  In a nutshell, these are remarkable headphones for $300.  At $199???
