Is it still possible to get the K7XX, or is everything over.

only way to get it right now is to buy it used from someone else. however, massdrop will be doing another release of this product as they started with 6,000 units (sold maybe 2,000-3,000ish the first drop).

Mine finally arrived. The last pair of AKGs I owned were the original K701s which, coming from MB Quarts (rather Beyer-like in comfort) were torture devices and too bereft of bass to be really enjoyable.  The K7XX very much kill it with vocals as per the AKG tradition but seem a bit better balanced overall.

By "kill it", do you mean good or bad. I usually read "kill it" or "killing it" as excellence, but with respect to K/Q 7-- series cans, I have read so many negative criticisms over the years with respect to vocals that I wonder if you mean that the K7xx murders vocals (I.e., bad). Personally' I don't have an issue with vocals on my q701 and I think the K7xx is even better in this regard.

The FR of the 700 series was always excellent for vocals. It tends to highlight instruments in a way that made them popular with critical listeners as well. The very first pair of good headphones I tried was a pair of K601s when visiting Tokyo back in 2007 or so. Unfortunately I only listened to the Norah Jones that they had on hand, which was a very good match, leading me to decide to buy K701s (though not for the $800 or so the store in Tokyo was asking -- I bought a pair through the classifieds).

Back then, of course, there were numerous fierce discussions about the K701 vs. HD600 vs. HD650 as the only other alternatives were Grados or Stax for the most part. How things have changed!

140$ pending customs charge here :)

However new legislation passed and will be effective in the new year which is when I will be asking the post to reevaluate the customs fees, I'll get them to around 60+.

Since the 29th I have had the choice to get the 7xx now and pay 140 or wait and pay 60, oh the torture :D

I'm from France so I didn't received tracking number, in fact, I didn't received any mail from massdrop regarding this drop. Some French from this thread have already received the akg last week so I'm little worried.

I received my tracking number 2 days after it had shipped but it still worked out, likewise a bunch of canadiens (some having ordered after me too!) got theirs first.
All in all massdrop had trouble shipping things in order and properly.

imo, more meaningful comparisons between akg and sennheiser are as follows:
K701/702 vs HD600
Q701 vs HD 650
K712 vs HD700
