The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread

For anyone who own(ed)/used both K7xx and Beyerdynamic DT 990 600 ohm headphones, what genre of movies and games does the K7xx natural sound signature favor? Likewise for the DT 990's V-shaped sound signature.

I am not sure why, but my Beyerdynamic DT 990 600 ohm gets a lot of dusts on the hanger. I do not like how it sounds in any of my amps.

On the other hand, the K7xx is my recent favorite phone. I listen to them hours and hours on a Garstud H10 every day in this Thanksgiving break.

Hey guys, I have been using the K7xx for the last 7 months recently, Love them, I would say they're my first audiophile headphones, I'm still learning everything, but as of right now i'm planning on getting a cable from BTG-Audio. (http://btg-audio.com/) I talked to the owner and he suggested on getting my headphones modded to be compatible with balanced cables. (http://btg-audio.com/webstore.htm#!/AKG-Balanced-conversion/p/53874971/category=2609209) I'm still not sure what balanced cables are so what do you guys suggest?

I wouldn't call the K7XX natural sounding but that's just me
K7XX: never used for movies or games, mostly new age, jazz and rock (bifrost/Lyr2)
DT-990 premium 250:  also never used for movies or games, classic rock, well recorded classical, Kpop, and Jpop (UD-301/BH Crack)
Movies: HD-700 (UD-301/Project Ember)
Games: SennGrado, walnut cups with angled drivers (Asus Xonar STX)

Unless you have a balanced amp, this balanced mod will not help much.

What is your current amp and DAC?

The Amp/Dac i'm currently using is a REX-A2496HA1, I picked it up from Japan when I was over there during the summer, not sure if you'll be able to find information on it in english, but I picked it up for like $35 and it's been solid for me

Here is the manual for your amp. I don't read Japanese, but these appear to be the power specs:

The power specs appear to be 33mw per channel at 60 ohm, and 2Vrms per channel into 100 ohms. If you are running it at or near full volume, then a better amp/dac setup is probably the way to go and not worry about balanced cables.
