The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread

I am curious how close to the DT990 the K712 may sound.  The frequency response look similar with the exception of the recessed midrange on the DT990.  I had the DT990 for a while, but the sound signature is so colored compared to other neutral headphones like the LCD-3 and AH-D2000.

Anyone made the comparison?

Unless the K712 is radically different from the other AKGs, not close at all.

Completely different sound.

AKG 712 pro: more dark sound. 712 have lost the (lovely) airiness and detail in the mids than the standard 702.

DT990 pro: more and robust bass. Light mids and emphasized treble. Loudness like.

712 PRO had more "organic" sound than the DT990 PRO but 712 lost the "airy" sound of 702.

712 is not a 702 with more bass. Is something completely different.

Please, more impressions Q701 vs K712 Pro :)

How about first you ask for "Q701 + memory foam pads vs K712." or... "K712 + angled pads vs Q701."

Do they sound different or the same when using the same pads?  We should figure that out first.  If the two headphones sound the same, then K712 are the same as the Anniversaries.  The recent posts saying the K712 is darker and less airy have me leaning towards them being the same (my original inclination).

There are already plenty of Q701 vs K702 Anniversary impressions already floating around to look at. In other words, if it's not a "new" headphone, why ask for new impressions when there are already plenty of "old" impressions to read with the Anniversary vs Q701 that will work just as well.

Why hasn't somebody who owns both the Q701 and K712 answered this yet?  Whatever...in a couple days I'll figure it out very quickly and post what's up with them.

I have a feeling that it's going to be a one sentence comparison.

I should make a new "K712 Pro Vs. K702 65th Anniversary | Comparison and Review" thread and have it just be one sentence.

If you can, try to remove the pads and take a peak at the driver. It's just hard for me to believe AKG got that kind of bass (as seen in the Headroom graphs) from the standard K702 driver.
Maybe it's a completely new driver but with similar specs.

I'll be totally surprised if it's NOT a clone of the Anniversary. Hoping it really has more low bass than the Anniversary but sounds clearer and a little less dark than the Annie. Probably not going to happen.

Actually, it will have to be two sentences because you have to thank MLee for making the comparison possible...

That sounds too good to be true, but we'll see :\

When I sent the K712 to Chicolom I also threw the KEF M500 in the box. (If USPS cooperates he'll get them tomorrow)  Maybe he'll be nice enough to comment on them as well.  Some would describe them as close to what you are calling your holy grail - clearer and a little less dark than the Annies but they also have some bass to them, nice sound especially for a closed, on ear headphone.
