I'd like to hear somebody take the pads off of the K712, put them onto a K701/2 and compare the sound between the two

Been comparing the new K712 pro vs K702-65 with a variety of amps including the MF v8 that was used in the K702-65 review. The new K712 pro is not a dress changed K702-65. IMO, k702-65 is still the KING of the K7xx series.

Is the difference really that dramatic? I'm asking because I ordered a K712 expecting a recoloured K702 65. The only reason i did not go for the annie is that it is just insanly expensive (559,96 € which is reoughly 722,46 $) in germany (where i live) and the K712 pro is sold for 449 € (579,30 $). So would you suggest in my case that i just stick to the K712 or is the annie really worth it and i should get it no matter the price?

Whats the difference between K712 and K702-65 Anni? I don't have a K702-65 Anni, only Q701 and K701 and here the K712 is the king.

I really liked the short style of review with a nice insight in the music peaces you used. Really helped me to decide to get the k712 pro (oh yeah and the huge price difference to the annie ^^)!

Please describe the sound signatures and any sound differences if you can.
I'm especially interested in knowing if the K612 is any different than the K601. In your unboxing video comments you said it was.

Interedasting. What are the differences? These honestly should sound identical, with the way AKG marketed the K712. Maybe driver to driver variation, or is the difference that vast?

Now I wanna hear the K712. Im mainly interested in the difference in bass. If the bass is similar, I'm gonna assume variation, and not a legit change.

My next short, but intensive tests

Meyer Records Vol. 1

Compareing K712 <--> Q701 (with K712 Pads)
K712 - bass is a bit deeper, a bit more resolved, free.

In the long time test (I heard quite a few of my CDs "up and down" in the meantime) the K712 revealed a fatigue-free listening. All images were played back in great detail. The bass seems "the right place" and is not bloated (what with the D7000 occasionally occurs).
The K712 affords no noticeable weaknesses. Otherwise error in the images are very probably noticeably - yes finally, that must be the job of Studio Headphones (the main purpose of the K712 Pro).

Roger Waters, Amused To Death, Tr. 12 "Three Wishes"
http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/poprock/detail/-/art/Roger-Waters-Amused-To-Death/hnum/1594911
K712 vs. Q701 with flat (K712 like) Pads
The hiss of the basin (brass) appears a bit more terse and a bit better resolved with the K712.
The deep roar of the Three Wishes comes with a bit more pressure at the K712.

In my compareson tests, mostly I play short sequences of a few bars again alternating with the two headphones.
For me the K712 ranks about the Q701 (both - original or K712 pads).

A comparison test K712 with the K701 (with original pads) coming soon.

PS: You must seen all my test are subjektiv - for your own opinion you should compare this headphones self.
Less subjetive tests are ABX blind-tests with more persons - but this are hard to do with headphones.

Please excuse my not so perfect english - my native language is german.

I think its pretty obvious that K712 are NOT the same as Q701 just becasue the drivers and pads are different.
and its also very reasonable that most people will prefer K712 to Q701's nowadays with the bass needing market that we have found lately.

question is how different are K712 compare to K702.65

How is this obvious? Who has evidence that the drivers are different? It could be something as simple as drivers being cherry picked from the line, and the pads are obviously different. However once you swap pads, the Q701 and at least the K702/65 are 99.9% the same, the difference being driver to driver variation, which I am almost positive is the same difference between the K712 and those before it. Put some standard K70x or Q701 pads on the K712, and im sure you'll get the same sound as the standard K70x/Q models, driver to driver variation aside.

Hell, I had 3 different DT990/600 at home at the same time, and they all sounded different. Driver variation exists, and can make two of the same headphone sound like two different headphones.

@Mad Lust Envy Q701, K702, K702/65 use the same driver (equal spare part#). The driver from K712 are a little different to the drivers before.
