The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread

I've sold mine K712 last week because compared to the HD 600 or HD 800 I found that K712 is not clean sounding. Compared to the HD 600, K712 have better separations and better soundstage but I miss that clean voices from HD 600. I don't know how to describe it but K712 is a bit "plasticky sounding" compared to the HD 600 or even to the old K500 or K400. My next headphones will be probably HD 800 with Anax mod or HD 800S. I want that great soundstage and separations from K712 but with super clean sound and with more details.

I really don't get the "plasticky" thing, but agree both HD600 and HD800 are slightly cleaner in terms of vocals, sometimes (depending on the recording) at the expense of being too dry to sound completely natural to my ears.

Yup, got mine a few days ago aswell, and honestly it doesnt bother me if they replace it with a newer/better version, i'm pretty damn happy with it. Rather spend more money on a good Amp than look for getting a replacement/upgrade to the K712 :)

Also, can anyone recommend me a good stand for the K702's? The Omega is available where I live, is it a good choice?

Omega stand will ruin the headphone. It will stretch out the elastics for the headband and compress the pads (this is true for any headphone, by the way, that an Omega stand will compress the pads and if it has a suspension headband, will stretch that out).

Having not used the Omega, I have two of the FSDUALWIN amazon stands. They have single or dual, I got the dual. Cushioned rests, and holding a HE400i ad 712 Pro without issue.

Currently making a circular add on with empty rolls of duct tape, foam and dual sided foam tape to rest the headbands on...

They *were* listed as discontinued until some time ago, thus the discussion that ensued. They're back on the site now though, weird.

I'd like to add two cents to the stand discussion.
I do have the omega, I use it for my k551 headphones, i don't notice too much pressure on the ear pads.
I wouldn't use it for the k712 though, mostly because it would stretch out the rubber bands that hold the headband.
For my k712 i use one of these: http://headphonescout.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Sennheiser-Headphone-Stand-Desk-Clamp.jpg
It works great, but there is one super important thing to NOT do, when you use this one.
Do not hang the headphones on the head band, hang them on the metal wires on top instead, that way headband is in the rested position, and there is virtually no use on it.

Really, use the suspension band instead? Same as the he400I and fidelio x2 I assume?
I read somewhere on here that doing such could cause more strain or something, color me confused! :p
I'm using a empty duct tape roll on top of my stand to rest the headphones currently.

This is how I use mine. I don't see how that would be bad for the headphones. While hanging them on the headband is bad, which unfortunately I was stupid enough to learn on my own mistake. Wrecked a pair of k702s that way.

AKG provide an Omega type stand in the box with their 812 headphone claiming that using it will prolong the life of the pads etc.

Interesting!
I wonder if the 812 has a better elastic system in the headband, possibly?
