You'll get an idea for what they like. You can also pick a favorite album you don't think they have or look at other recommendations for particular genres. More than anything, though, it's great to get a thoughtful gift. I have enjoyed everything I've gotten through the years.

Legal aspects aside, this would be stingy and cheap. I know I would be disappointed if I received a burned disc.
