Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

Heh...still a little mad about the last post you quoted by me? :p
Where have I ever said that I’d managed to do a valuable comparison with all those headphones?
I did a tongue-in-cheek ranking basically based on WHEN I last heard them.

Eh, not mad much really, just a bit surprised that someone would out up a ranking after a day but YMMV probably.

So, do you have any other planars to compare them with or not? It's hard to tell as your profile is empty....

But I didn’t:wink:
I made a tongue-in cheek ranking after my initial post, which was directed at my affinity for NOT ranking the headphones that I own.

I have owned the he400, he400s as well as the he500. The latter I vastly prefered to the LCD-2 - a can I’ve tried on a number of occasions as well as having lived with it for a couple of weeks thanks to a good friend. The Sundara is/was a different signature compared to the he500, but I didn’t feel as if I was downgrading in any way when I sold it off and kept the Sundy.

First try. Treble is now smooth. I wonder if I can tame that 890 Hz ringing.

Edit. Nvm I found the reason why there was too much ringing at Left side at 890 Hz. Over tightned bolts. Problem is now less and it measures better now. Need to figure now does this need any modding and does it help.

This all what I did. Added pcv tape to the middle. No more piercing highs. I also use velours. Tonal balance is perfect. A bit bassy cans and smooth sounding.

Sundy
Tacky
Olly
Nighty

Also happens to be the order in which I last listened to them (almost)

My fave can in the house right now though? The K260 through the Valhalla 2.

I actually prefer the Tak 580 to HE 560, though I never tried the Sundara. I did AB then just threw one cup from each headphone on each ear and just full on preferred the 580. I'll probably be selling a few of my other planars to be honest. Hoping whoever is OEM for the driver keeps it up, they're gonna make some splashes for sure.[/QUOTE]
I ABed the he500 with the 560 and thought the latter had way too much treble energy for it’s own good. The Sundara and 580 are both planars cut from the same cloth though in that they lack the traditional “marmelade-like” sound of planars. They’re brilliantly clear and detailed instead.
I think this headphone will make some splashes too. Perhaps also outside of the cuckoo’s nest ie Head-Fi..I mean lots of folks enjoy their tunes and love a great headphone. They just think we’re halfbaked when they hear that we paid 500+$ ‘for a freakin’ can man!’. Those people will bask in the sunshine of this wonderful new scene: audiophile level planar under 200 bucks.

theyre very bassy with solid pads. by solid i mean neither of the included pads since the bass just goes right into the pad foam and decays. needs solid wall earpads.

Following an extended break from headphones the first set of cans I bought (some 6/7/more years ago?) were the Takstar Hi2050. I enjoyed the Hi2050's very much but the little Takstar's made me wonder how other (higher priced) headphone could possibly sound any better? Many different Headphones, Amps and Dacs later I am delighted to read Takstar have released the HF 580 and a number of people here enjoy their sound.

I very much enjoy reading peoples impressions of the HF 580, especially those comparing the 580's to other headphones and wonder if any others could leave their impressions of the 580's, compared to other headphones in their collection?

@stimuz I don't really get ur point of how they got decayed. But I think with softer pads may get more neutral sound. Less bass, more higher register. Now it's fine smooth and I like it but as u see its planar 10-1500 Hz is on right track but after that it just goes down. It's clean sounding and fast with great dynamics. I hope some nice mods to make it more even.

@stimuz Yup. But denser pads helps to keep bass in. They go already easily 30 Hz so I don't think that is too leaky.

I made my first EQ settings for the Peace. Its for velour pads and my tape mod. Hope you like. I made it more flat sounding but slighly keeping upper register slighly lower. I'm gonna improve it on future but that was just 5 min job. Free to test :)

230 Hz, G +2, Q 8
540 Hz, -2, Q 12
600 Hz, G +2, Q
890 Hz, -5, Q 2 12
1500 Hz, G -5, Q 3, Low shelf filter
2000 Hz, G +2, Q 8
4000 Hz, G +3, Q 1

Edit. Second try. The 900 Hz ringing may happen between 800-900 Hz. For me its 795 Hz. If you guys can test sweep tone and see if it smooth/flat I would appreciate it.

Setting is for equalizer apo peace. Copy the code to text editor and save the file as HF580.peace. Move or save the file to EqualizerAPO > config folder

What tape mod?
Look my latest photo on this thread...

I have slight inbalance between drivers. Right is 1 dB louder and Left has smoother treble. I may need to loose the bolts on Right side and slighly reposition the magnets.

This is damn good for gaming. I'm myself apex fan. It's so easy to pinpoint enemy with this headphone.Soundstage is super but sometimes I get feeling it a bit too much echoing. Like put your head inside a plastic bucket.

I think I might have an imbalance too. The left driver seems to have more treble than the right. What screws should I loosen?

I don't recommend to do that without measuring. It's risky operation because there two very strong magnet fields that will push each side away.

When you take the pad off, you see four screws and take them off first. Take careful the driver out. There may be some glue. You see eight small black screws. Losen them. Twist those two black frames hard as you can screw two screws first. But before you losening the eight screws, check against the direct sunlight if the pattern is 100% extacly the same each side. If its then you can try to losening them slightly and screw them back. May correct the slight misplacing.

Hmm. Interesting now I see not that difference anymore. Something happened... But I got fixed the 890 Hz ringing. Those two magnet fields need to extactly on correct place.

This is with the tape and I also added oval foam between the cup frame and the pad frame to make better seal. Slightly smoothed out upper frequencies.

I actually prefer the Tak 580 to HE 560, though I never tried the Sundara.
For me sundara is basically refined he560. He560 (properly amped) has better bass but sundara has more refined(less) treble. Both have this kind of Bright/plastic tone compared to takstar.

I perhaps prefer hf580 over he560 but sundara is imo a step above. Sundara has the effortless airy quality to it's presentation that only the likes of hd800 can match. However If one likes more "meaty" sound I can see people preferring hf580 over sundara. Considering sundara is the headphone to beat at $500, Takstar has done amazing job here.

It took me a while to warm up to hf580, but yeah... These are insanely good for the money.
