The AMT seems not usable as a headphone driver; it looks like a driver for home audio sold by Dayton.

you are right, the 3.6Ω one is not for headphone.
in other hand, not many headphone company can design and produce planar Headphone driver, there are so much premiums.

I did not. But after I swapped the grille for an open type, I did fill the cup with longhair wool and half a slice of cotton (that women use to clean their face) in one particular corner. I also have the damping material at / near the cupwall. It is still has an 'open' sound, but it's more 'relaxed' now.

It doesn't work. Just cover the cups with your closed hands while listening. You will get a very unnatural sound.
