T2 - Finally bought one!

I also joined the club this year thanks to soren_brix. If equipped with wonderful tubes like the Siemens CCa and the Philips Miniwatt EL34 Metal Base, listening to the T2 is like touching the audiophile sky for a moment :).
Congrats! Gorgeous amp there. Siemens E88CC and Holland EL34 are still my favorite T2 tubes - the Siemens in particular is a difference maker. I don't even have the uber premium ones like you - even 1970s Siemens E88CC "A frame" trash still sounds better to me than other makes :)

Holland E88CC plus Holland EL34 in combination is just a bit too smooth and relaxed IMO.

There are several types of the Siemens CCa, the Gray Shields (manufactured in the 50s and 60s) and the Silver Shields (manufactured in the 70s). The Gray Shields are considered to be superior to the Silver Shields. My quad is an early production from 1957 (Gray Shield).
On this forum there is a very informative thread about the different 6922 tube types: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/692...922-6n23p-e88cc-cca-7308-e188cc-tubes.761078/

I know there are many more premium versions - I'm just not going there anymore, lol. The less desirable 1970's Siemens E88CC are relatively cheap & abundant, and I find them to be a meaningful upgrade over other makes, while forming a particularly nice sonic match to my T2. It has that magic combination of dynamics & sweet mids. Heck, Russian Mullard EL34 plus the cheaper Siemens E88CC is a good bang-for-buck tube complement on T2. If the premium Siemens fell in my lap, I certainly wouldn't say no :)

My personal opinion is that the T2 as the pinnacle of amps really deserves the best available input and output tubes. Only with these it is possible to get the best out of the amp.

You previously said "E88CC plus Holland EL34 in combination is just a bit too smooth and relaxed IMO."

In your opinion what is the best combination of input and output tubes for the T2?
