Let's get the ball rolling with an official discussion thread for the T+A DAC 200. T+A is way under the radar in the US, but now that people are getting a chance to hear it, that won't be the case for much longer.

Features:
  • 200ma Headphone Amplifier with 4.4mm balanced input jack.
  • Preamplifier volume control.
  • USB DAC - Supports up to PCM 32/768 and DSD 1024.
  • RCA analog input to bypass the DAC with another source.
  • RCA and balanced XLR output jacks.
  • HDMI (ARC) option.

Note: There is a separate thread for the HA 200 (Headphone Amp and DAC) on the Headphone Amps thread.

I am interested in T+A DAC 200 for a few weeks now because of HDMI ports that one can connect to the bluray player or game consoles to improve the sound quality. Moreover, the price, the build quality and the sound are great too. About 10k in Australia compare to other very expensive Dacs such as Chord Dave is 19k.

Battle of some expensive DACs. Really impresive sound for T+A DAC 200 for the value. However to my ears, Chord Dave and SoulNote S3 Ver 2 are still my favourite sound in this clip.

Is this 4.4 mm balanced the same as a - 4.4mm (5-pole) by Pentaconn? Anyone?

Does it upsample internally? Have any of you heard it? How do the 8 Burr Brown converters compare to other options?

I hope this is not too much of a silly question, but...
I do not exactly understand the main difference between:
- T+A DAC 200 and
- T+A HA 200

I mean, the T+A DAC 200 does already include a full Headphone Amp ? Right ?

Thank you

'i believe' the DAC 200 lacks the EQ, loudness and crossfeed functionality of the HA 200

The HA200 does not have dedicated pre-out - have to use a conversion cable on the headphone 4 pin XLR

The DAC 200 has dedicated balanced and single ended analogue outputs

Both have separate DACs for PCM and DSD and can be fitted with HDMI as an extra

Looks like I am going to have a Dac200 incoming very soon. It'll replace the Dave-sized gap on my shelf. I am finalising the details of a loaner until the UK importer can get my hands on a shiny new black one. With my whole library upsampled, I am looking forward to see what this little chap can deliver through both PCM and DSD paths. Will be using with AHB2, 1266 TC & Raal SR1a.

Who is the UK importer? I think Audio Barn sell them don't they?

Audiobarn, yes. Igloo Audio and a few others also list them.

The AudioBusiness in Wiltshire and KOG are listed as importers.

Looking forward to your impressions. I've heard Burr-Brown DACs years ago, but certainly not one with 8 converters. My DAC preference leans more towards R2R, but I'm always alert for a TOTL end game product.

Looking forward to your thoughts, especially in comparison to the Dave. I'm interested to hear how this dac could perform with PGGB/PCM and HQPlayer at DSD256/512. Incidentally how will you be connecting and streaming to the Dac 200?
