Well, let it be known that I do have superstitions, and that this will be my 667th post.

Are you superstitious, or is your whole family superstitious?

one man's supersition is another man's knowledge, and another man's folly.

perhaps a history lesson of how superstitions came to be, for many, if not all, are based on fact or myth, would be appropriate.

i am not superstitious - but i have learned to read nature's signs and warnings. (it's the ameri-indian in me).
-------
"three on a match is bad luck" supposedly came about because 3 men were in a foxhole. they lit a match to light their cigarettes. by the time the match was bought to the third man's cigarette, a sniper had been able to home in on the flame, and was able to kill the third man.
--------
and, no, i will not sit at a table that has 11 people on it. and if someone comes to my table to sit down, and i am the 11th person, i will stand up and leave the table. superstitious? perhaps... (but that's another story

Huh? Dude.. how can you say you're not superstitious and yet post this? You will not sit at a table with 11 people? What if you're already seated and an 11th person comes -- you'll motor? That's hilarious.

I don't think there's anything wrong with superstitions as long as they aren't some sort of life disturbing dysfunction. Conjunction junction what's your function?

i've got a minor superstition. see 13's everywhere. multiples of 13, stuff that adds up to 13, and its always good stuff so i tend to think it has something good to do with my life

to those who said that you possess no superstitions: if someone sneezes and you say "god bless you", you are committing a superstition act.

have you ever/never noticed the 'lunacy" during full moons? "luna" - moon.

"red sky at night, sailor's delight. red sky in morning, storm warning."

ever cut off a hurst? ever whistle pass a graveyard at night? never seen a car crash where you knew someone died and made the sign of the cross? never been pri-mordialy scared when you see a black cat jump out of the darkness? never fought over the turkey bone at thanksgiving? in many places people shoot guns into the air for good luck on New Year's Eve. and of course there is the firecrackers on Chinese New Years. never worn your "lucky" socks during a baseball game? never crossed your fingers?

So why do people sing "Aud Lang Syne"? http://mgsdailyreflections.tripod.com/AuldLangSyne.htm

Never done that... "Gesundheit" for me, and just because I was taught to do it as a little kid...

I figured out long ago that that doesn't really help, though it is definitely grounded in science...

Nope, nope, nope (never made the sign of the cross in my life, I'm an atheist/agnostic; I've also never witnessed a car crash that resulted in a death - only seen two, and I was a passenger in both of 'em, and they were in the same car. Neither resulted in even close to life threatening damage; that Volvo was TOUGH. though we had to scrap it after the second crash because repair would have been too expensive), nope (I like cats; when I see black ones my reaction is 'here kitty kitty' not 'go away spawn of the devil'

Nope (that's bad manners), never shot a gun in my life and I've never celebrated Chinese New Years, never been to a baseball game that I enjoyed, and the one time I tried crossing my fingers my luck went sour.

I've played Auld Lang Syne on the trumpet, but I've never sung it...
