Used with Etymotic ER4
OPA627 - Thick, more body(heavy) to it, Extreme smoothness, Laid back, Highly emotional, fuller bass and midrange and Good airy high, slow. It feels like the instruments are in the air and amazing decay. Second day of burning in.

AD8610 - Light, fast, amazing clarity, sparkling, Good Attack Transient(whack of drums, Guitar), Young, energetic, harder to fall asleep with this one. it's already burned in. Decay is too abrupt.

I thought I would post my opinion here.

SR-71 which opamps do they use? I read that it's darkness, and detailed, sweet, but which type of OpAmp is it?

The opamp in the 71 has been painted over, trade secret I guess.

I have listened to both the 627 and 8610 and I am not sure which one I like best. The 627 will take more time to burn in than what you have on it. After that I know from my own experience, it opens up more and the high frequencies are more extended.

I'm probably wrong, but I'd heard that the SR-71 used AD797s. I wonder what'd happen if you used AD797s in a PIMETA or something.. how SR-71-like would it sound?

Anyone knows what kind of sound expected if I change it to 637? I like the high detail in 8610 and I like the thickness of 627. Is 637 the combination between the two? Which OpAmp can combine both characteristics?

Hmm, sounds like we sould use OPA627 for Sennheiser style phones and AD8610 for Etymotic style phones. Or we could change the OpAmp just to change the characteristic of our phones

I kinda feel guilty for not trying and reporting the 627 vs. 637 difference with my SuperMacro since I have both. I also have the gain switch, which will have to be used for 637.

Well, 627 sounds just great, so I had very little incentive to try the 637, but maybe this thread is incentive enough ..

I kinda like more with OPA627 after burning in. The high is extended more and more. The 3D emotion and fullness in SM OPA627 just bedazzled me.
637 is perhaps even better? It would be nice to try out 637 of yours Jon hehe.
Once I got used to the fullness body feeling of OPA627, you will feel so dry and light with AD8610. It's a matter of preference, but if you prefer a more sensitive touchy feeling from your music, OPA627 is the way to go compared to AD8610.

I'm in itch to hear the SR-71. wanted to buy one, but money is a concern, I have to sell my SM AD8610 first.

the 627s in my friends Supermacro sounded awesome through my Grado SR200s. Loses a TAD of resolution to the SR71, but is a bit more forgiving and warm. Noise floor= black as night for both amps. Bass boost finally does something with these opamps in the SM. No need for gain/imp switches, i left them off, as well as crossfeed (but it worked fine when needed, like for beatles tunes).

All in all for my personal use I would still go with the SR71, but the supermacro isn't far behind at all.

I just switched opamps from the AD8610 to OPA627 and wow what a difference, the 627's sound great. To me they are much better than the AD8610. I'm listening with Grado SR-225's and the bass is so much thicker and stronger. I highly recommend the 627's!

In headphone-amp heaven!

I'm using both the AD8620 and OPA627BP op-amps in my source component and headphone amplifier. The results are great, but I do wonder about using the AD8610 in my headphone amplifier for the synergy. I feel that these two op-amps work pretty well cover the bases. I would recommend the combination together.
