Hi,
Very happy with my set of Samson SR 850 's however i would like to replace the pads since i wear them all day at work.
Since i cant afford expensive pads i and there is so much contradictory advise on velour vs leather i would like owners to give me advise.
The following are examples of options

I dont really want the sound to change since im happy with it as is, but no idea how velour would affect the sound, or for that matter the other 2, as far as comfort goes.
I realise these are not authentic ones, so would appreciate if general answers could be giving instead of just get AKG240 pads :D . Unless you feel that these cheap replacement pads are infact worse than the standard pleather bricks :D

I would say to go for the low cost Velours.
I was able to get AKG Velour ear pads for my SR850s and I like them.
I would assume the low cost Velours are fairly decent.

I also use AKG velours on my 668B's.
From the pads linked, I wouldn't recommend neither of the pleathers.
The first one (oval) is certainly gonna have an impact on the sound as the air chamber between ears and drivers will be smaller. Probably the bass response will be affected by that. Also I'm not so sure about the comfort (the openings seem a bit small to me).
The second pleathers look very similar to the originals and, given their price, I don't think they'll be more comfortable either.

The velours are really the only choice for long term comfort with these things. From the pictures they seem close enough to the AKG's and they look like a much safer bet.

Thanks, anyone have any actual experience with these ? Otherwise im ordering the velour pads tomorrow, or maybe ordering some socks and trying a sock mod first.

So next question, sock mod vs $10 velour pads :D

You have to try the plunger mod. The perfect round and soft shell help to absorb unwanted reverb!

Naah. Just kidding
