Summit-Fi Random Thoughts

Personally, I have got a little bored with headphones recently. I have to switch gears to something else for a while (gaming, etc.).

The burn out is real. I've been listening to headphones less nowadays. now that my kids are a bit older, I've restarted an old hobby I had since I was a kid; building model kits (Tamiya and Gunpla). have gone all out and bought new paints, a couple of airbrushes and other dedicated modeling gear. it's pretty zen... and the price point for this hobby is so much lower than headphones :stuck_out_tongue:

I've been getting back into listening and headphones again after like a month off of not listening to too much music at all. What about you? Have you experienced the same?

Makes a lot of sense. Generally, I really am satisfied with my gear. Like you, I don't ever really hear a step above nor am ever "blown away" again for the first time when trying other things. This year, I purposely bought a few new headphones and after the new excitement wore off and as I got done with my comparisons/impressions mainly went back to the gear I had. It was still fun however. But it also gave me a lot more appreciation and like you, doubt of taking the time/money to buy/demo new things unless they're offered from someone freely. I still get an itch for things I see and read about on here, but it can be really costly (in these economic conditions) taking a chance only to revert to what you already have and then having to sell off.

Go through some periods of boredom, but mainly enjoying the top 3-4 I really love on the system I have.

For me, life changes are the biggest challenge. I listen to speakers now far more because they are more conducive to family living due to less isolation. I can only see that increasing and having less time, which at some point I'll definitely have to downgrade and give even less time to.

I wish I could do speakers, but I live in a condo and don't want to piss off the neighbours.

Am just grateful I have a wife who is accepting of my hobbies. house is almost full of my crap (headphones stuff and modelling kit). I guess she is ok with it as they're "stay at home" hobbies and I can just stop listening to music/modelling and help out or give attention to the kids immediately when needed.

I wonder how it'll be when/if I start playing golf again and be at the course for half a day :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Yeah, it's generally a good problem to have. It's just hard to be impressed by much after hearing almost everything. The HE-1 is really the only thing in the last year or two that really excited me (maybe the Valkyria too, actually).

I found myself limiting what I listened to with my estats. I mean they are great with the right genres, but they aren't my preferred genres. I keep going back to planars and dynamics to listen to my "normal" music. I came to the realization that estats just aren't doing it for me. If I listened to mainly classical, jazz, or indie, I would probably think differently. But alas, I don't. I think I was trying to fit a square in a cirlce, or whatever the saying is, when listening to estats.

I really can't wait to hear the HE-1. If they satisfied your bass needs then I need to hear them lol (and I hear the same from other people). Also, the Valkyria also really impressed me and I'd love to own a pair. The sticker price is a lot for what it is imo, but they were damn good and unique enough to be exciting despite what I have. May move some things around to try and make happen.

I totally get it on the e-stat front. As much as I love them, at least imo, the genres they excel at tend to be a bit limited for sure. I've said it over and over and it may not be worth the significant investment to even try if you don't love those genres. But salute to you, you gave it a go and you tried a lot and loved the strengths you saw in them while you did. I've appreciated the impressions from the journey.

Random thought: I'm listening to my Shang Sr for probably one of the last times. Listening to Lana Del Rey. I want somebody to love me like Lana Del Rey loved whoever she was talking about when making NFR or Chemtrails. :disappointed_relieved: :triportsad:

For rap and metal, I'm surprised you lasted with stats and ribbons this long, tbh lol.
Once I got the amping sorted (VM1a for the CA1a and VM1a or Zahl + Mitch filter for SR1a), I fell in love with my ribbons for metal. The speed and clarity are just intoxicating.

Yeah, if I ever get my fukcing tubes, I'm right with you. Ribbons have a nice sound to them. You get almost Shang Sr levels of resolution for a fraction of the cost (even considering the VM-1a). I wish more companies made ribbon headphones. I don't know why they haven't, to be honest.

You wasted your money on the Shangri-la scam, Onkyo A800 $400 outclassed that nonsense.
The only plywoodman products anyone should own are the HE6, HE5,HE400 and Sundara, that's all, period.

Stax was designed for classical music period. Silly, if anyone think they can listen to rap with it.

Deep pocket influence have brainwashed everything.

to be honest the "summit fi" offerings like the scamscrilla and abyssmal have helped me justify dropping 5 figures on my r10 and the omega and I still hang onto the r10 partly because I think "well it isn't as much of a rip off as some stuff on the market" lol

People on this post are close to enlightenment! Life is like a bubble reflecting off the sun light. Beautiful but ultimately just an illusion. Someone got to mow the lawn and do the dishes after all. Sigh…

Yea for sure, they rival stats in the same way. But someone looking for deep bass isn't going to get it with ribbons or stats, really.
