I'm looking into a subwoofer tho go with some AudioEngine A5s. I don't need anything too huge, but adequate. Suggestions? I guess good low range is more important than power.

The A5's have adequate bass, subwoofer is not necessary. I pair the A2's with the Velodyne microvee, which might be out of your budget.

Depends on what you listen to and how loud you listen.

Even if you don't think you need loads of bass crossing the A5s to a sub will have big improvement in reducing their low-end distortion.

The A5's paired with a VX-10 sounds good...Especially if you like bass.

And if you like to play your music at high volume levels the A5's certainly sound much better with a sub.

I have heard great things about the Dayton sub Operandi linked to.

I have a friend who has one of the discontinued 8" Dayton's...Will be taking my A5's to his place to see how they sound paired with them.

Just want to compare the VX-10 and Dayton before I buy either one.

But for 150 dollars the VX-10 make the A5's sound much better.

Especailly at higher volumes.

How about getting the matching AS8 subwoofer for the A5's?

Yea I considered this, but for some reason I can't bring myself to spend more money on a subwoofer than the actual speakers. ($399)... Is that bad?

The HSU line is new but I bet the Dayton HSU8 will prove to be one of best musical 8" subs for the money.

Nice. If I needed a $250 sub I wouldn't hesitate to give it a shot.

You're just being cautious and that is a good thing

I too am in the same dilemma. Hopefully there will some reviews soon to help us make up our minds. I guess I can live with the lack of bass for movies at the moment.

Another reason is that I am rather broke....wait....really flat broke after upgrading my portable music rig. Me can waits
