Subtonic STORM: Impressions and Discussion
Feb 26, 2024 at 11:08 AM Post #752 of 1,003
Not sure to what degree this has been covered here, but I got this update today from Subtonic:
Launch edition has the same sound as regular edition. Only change is external cosmetics. The sound remains the same.
And this from Subtonic as well, which people have discussed here:
We are still working on the regular edition to be ready for release later this quarter.
That first quarter end is coming down fast so we'll see.

Subtonic will be attending CanJam NYC alongside Nightjar Acoustics and Symphonium Audio, come find us at booth D11. The regular edition is still being prepared but since there are still many who have not heard the STORM we will have the launch edition available for demo. Do drop by for a listen!

Any update when the next release will be? Will it be super limited again?

Cable rolling is very easy actually.
Step 1: Obtain a 2-pin cable.
Step 2: Remove existing cable from Storm.
Step 3: Attach new cable into Storm.
Step 4: Listen to Storm.
Step 5: Return to Step 1 and repeat.

Not sure what you mean by challenging but Storm is one of the most responsive IEM to not just cables but any change in the chain that I've tried. Definitely do so if you get a chance to.

My question relates more to the aspect of how I can safely move the cable (2-pin plugs) out of SsTORM's rather narrow sockets. I may have misunderstood the comments here and it's not a problem at all with STORM.

It's not that much more difficult vs non-recessed sockets if that's what you are trying to say.

The force required is similar, just make sure you pull on the cable housing and not the cable itself.

You can also leverage a nail in-between the socket and the cable to further assist your extraction of the cable from the socket.

Did anyone try Questyle CMA18 portable with Subtonic Storm? Will it drive fully with 1W@32ohm?

From what I heard, the CMA18P should have no problems driving the STORM.
However, it being a good pairing is another question entirely.

I think @Chang has heard them both, so maybe he'll comment in a bit
