Hi folks.........
I'm looking for a pair of headphones to serve as an alternate reference monitor option while mixing in my project studio. I don't need these for tracking, so don't necessarily need a closed design. FYI, my monitor speakers are Genelec 1032As (with and without a 1092 sub) and Westlake BBSM-4s. I'm not looking for glory speakers—I want accuracy and transparency above all else as well as a sonic perspective to complement/contrast my Genelecs and Westlakes.

I've always been partial to AKG K240s (for both sound and comfort) and see that AKG has introduced the K712 at the top of their line, which is tempting. I also see some new offerings from Shure, Sony and even Focal, plus there's the audiophile lineup (Grado, Sennheiser, Denon) that has some nice things to offer. My rep at Sweetwater says everyone there loves Focal Spirit Pros.

Does anyone have a recommendation for me, or feedback—good or bad—about the K712s, Focal Spirit Pros or any other serious studio monitors? I would spend $500.

Thanks!
