I love the sound of closed headphones very much mainly because of the big bass and punchy sound. I wish I could try the ED8. I heard that they are very fun but still very balaced..sound sweet!
the price is also very sweet
smile.gif

if you have them, are you gonna balance them?

Plonter, if you love the HD650's and D5000's, then the Ed8's are just for you.

Plonter, it's not like me and aimlink are trying to do you in. But I'll tell you as soon as I get my balanced ED8 and hear them from my BUDA/UDAC/DPS ;-) My expectations are very high. I have a feeling that I may even like it better than the HD800 :-)

I got my Ultra yesterday afternoon and was going to wait for few days to a week to post my impressions but I figured it wasn't a big deal after only a day. The biggest thing I've noticed so far is that sounds have TEXTURE. Like I can almost reach up and grab a fuzzy guitar or bite into a bass tone. I guess the only thing that would make it better is the full thump of sound waves hitting my whole body from speakers. But this will do
smile_phones.gif
Also the "high" end has gotten considerably more open and extended. One of the thing I hated about my old AKGs was their harshness and overall I hate brightness, and I think that now some of my music is bordering on being too bright. That or I'm just used to the regular desktop sound. The Ultra definitely has made the music more, well, musical. Everything is more involved and fluid, more detail, just better in a general sense. $1,000 better? Geez I don't know but I'm probably gonna end up keeping it! I'm gonna try and listen to this amp for about a week, switch back over to the regular desktop and see if its a significant difference, or as big as I thought it was when I first started listening.

Overall I'm very impressed/satisfied with it.

Did you really order those HD800's?

I am giving you benefit of doubt.

Yeah I guess I misunderstood your statement. Where did you order them from? I'm definitely going to be keeping my Ultra, really digging the sound coming from it. I kept my mind open about my expectations for this amp and so far its been a pleasant surprise.

I've read from several posts when I was researching the Ultra that the HD800 made a "surprisingly" good pairing with it. Who knew! Have you heard them together before or heard any hearsay? I'm a bit hesitant about considering them cause I've heard they're "airy", and sometimes the word harsh comes up which immediately kills my chub.

I was joking regarding benefit of doubt. See? You're keeping the Ultra. I did give you benefit of doubt.

I ordered the HD800's from HeadRoom.

Well, veiled, muddled and muddy bass are said about the HD650's. I love them. The main problem I have with the K702's is treble. I'm beginning to lose my fondness for Grado's. After all of this, I'm beginning to realize that it's important to listen for myself. I haven't been able to audition the HD800's and doubt I ever will be able to considering where I am. After comparing the cans I have with frequency response curves, as well as opinions from owners, I think that there's a high chance I'll not be disappointed by the HD800's. I have also heard that they synergise well with the HeadRoom amps.

I lost mine after my Grado GS1000 experience. Yes, the HD800 pairs quite well with the Headroom UDA. Please compare and contrast your experience between the HD800 and the ED8 for me.
