Do you think this means that there is a better chance of getting the x9000s faster from Woo than any other US outlet? The 1K deposit program is attractive.
I would think so. I know Jack for over 15 years and is a great guy.

Staxaudio are an authorized *reseller* - same as HeadAmp and others. The sole *distributor* in the USA appears to be Staxheadphones.com (as per this list).
Is kind of strange that they can use the name Stax then.

They seem to be based in Hong Kong and the phone number is a Hong Kong number. Must be an error on the list.

https://staxaudio.com/about is the US distributor and is run by Woo Audio. They took over when the old distributor disappeared a couple of years ago. The old one was based in Texas and was called staxusa.com or something along those lines.

LOL. So it turned out that the airy, spacious but completely bass-lacking presentation on my previous T8000 was because it was broken. I bought another T8000 and it sounds much more similar to a BHSE.

What a bummer, I kinda enjoyed the different taste of the broken T8000 if it doesn't burn the headphones or the house down.

What was broken? I have a T8000 at home with my 009S and although it isn’t totally lacking bass, my 007tII has much more punch in the bass. Very surprising.

Both amps completely stock. Feeding the two amps from balanced outputs of either a Benchmark DAC3 or an RME ADI-2 Pro.

The 8000 sounds OK, but seems it should sound better than just OK at that price, and I prefer the 007tII, which is a bargain compared to the 8000.

I’ve got the Stax 9000 on order, but it will probably be a while before I get them, and will try both amps with those as well.

Thanks for any info on what was wrong with the first 8000 you mention was broken.

I decided to place an order with Woo for the X9000. Probably won't see them until mid to late summer but I have 009s and BHSE so there is no hurry. Hopefully they will have worked out any manufacturing kinks. Looking forward to getting them.....

In addition to the Megatron (built by Kevin), and the T2 (George's) on the way, I have a 2020 build SRM-007tii that I really enjoy.

The SRM-007tii will bring the house down with a quad of vintage Mazda Brimar's or RCA long black plates with fat D getters.

With the stock 2007 production Electro Harmonix tubes, my 007tii a laughably poor amp, particularly in terms of bass response and treble detail.

With vintage tubes, it is simply spectacular, even when driving the SGL. The difference is nothing short of jaw-dropping.

Small new production tubes simply can't hold a candle to the best 50's NOS examples, particularly when strapped together and used as drivers for the output stage, as in the SRM-007tii. They break up into distortion long before producing any meaningful output, and don't offer any bass or treble extension to begin with, at any SPL. This is not the fault of the circuit topology or of the amp build. It's simply the fault of the cheap, current-production stock tubes used.

The SRM-007 (as well as its descendent models) is very well-regarded on the other forum, and there is a lot of tube rolling and biasing info from circa 2005 to be found on this forum. The SRM-007t represented Stax's flagship tube amp line for nearly 20 years, and for good reason...

Was able to talk to someone who works at Stax (not a dealer). Preorders by their estimation are currently 4-month for those that purchase today. They said they're working through a bigger demand than expected and have increased capacity with plans to commit to a shorter delivery timeline in the next month or so.
Could be their way of just kicking the can but not bad news.

sr009, sr-a, srx9000, shangrila.jr, susvara

slightly pointless exercise but I extracted FR delta of these compared to the original track

(please note hifimans are different vertical scale; didnt catch that when taking screenshots) (also ignore below 40hz and upper treble region, take all of these with a huge lump of salt)

Sadly it appears none of the Stax were sealed properly judging by peak and rolloff at 100hz. Still thought I'd share though the usefulness is rather limited :p

Wonder when Jude or someone else with a proper measuring rig is gonna get their hands on one...

the song used to compare headphones with deltaware doesn't have much content above 11khz+ apparently.

X9000's were not well sealed on the measurement rig too obviously.

based on these measurements(which are not reliable), X9000 seems to be objectively one of the best headphones in the market(if not the best).

The spot where it sharply cuts off is likely due to the AAC codec settings Youtube uses, it only goes up to iirc 16khz. Below that point the treble rolloff is likely rig-related since graph is a delta so absolute quantity of treble in the original is irrelevant; you can see what happens when there actually isn't content in the area below 40hz where it wobbles around and shoots up randomly.

Personally it looks to me that the Hifiman headphones still have a better-behaved graph here, but of course FR on its own won't really tell you anything that useful. I would say it appears to measure better than 009S, however, at least on this setup.
