Stax SR-X9000
Jan 6, 2022 at 4:07 PM Post #706 of 3,073
I ordered my SR-X 9000 on 9/21/2021 from Staxaudio.com, paid for in full on order.
I have not received it, and there is no estimated delivery date (after initial expectations mid October, late November).

Given the current availability situation, if I were going to cancel (will reassess at the end of January), I would probably investigate Shangri La Sr. availability and reconsider Stax.

I ordered mine on HeadAmp on 9/27 and received it in early December. I would expect yours to arrive pretty soon.

HE-1 is electrostatic and it has enough bass. SR007 has more then Susvara. CRBN what I read has also more then enough. It's not the truth that e stats cannot bass. They can but 009 and X9000 can not hehe.
And for jazz and classic music no bass is needed? Okay...
bass is needed for jazz, sorry

Just ordered . Was told 2-3 months. The dealer mentioned they are making 7-10 per month so 2-3 months might be optimistic ..who knows. While there I got to compare the 009s and the 9000 briefly. Distinctly better build quality with the 9000 and I've never had a pair of headphones feel more comfortable

It's hard for me to place so much emphasis on bass because generally speaking it just isn't something headphones reproduce well imo. I have always relied on speakers for that.
100%. If you can't feel the bass it doesn't matter how much bass quality or impact or what else there is. Most of the times i'll find a 200 bucks speaker setup with a messy subwoofer more enjoyable for techno or edm than a Phi TC or Susvara.

I do have to agree that thats one of the best kept secrets of headphonephiles, and it's the bass. Perhaps a lot of times we associate physical impact and rumble with bass, and that's mostly absent while listening to headphones...so while bass thru 'phones can be tuneful, I haven't heard a deep, deep bass thru any set up yet. Talk about enjoyable, I find a whisky or two, and youtube videos played even through a modest set up can be more fun than some crazy ass system, where Im just staring at the wall...

To get back on topic …
Can people who are waiting or received their headphone give us their dates so someone can compile them to better understand the wait period.

I’ll go first:
1) ordered from head-amp 12/30/21. Estimated time I was told is 4 months.
9/29/21 from Headamp. No updates yet.

Just a little note on bass:

Regardless of the particular e-stats involved (007, 009, HE-60, Jade, SGL, X9000), there are a couple of non-eq approaches to addressing bass that are commonly employed in summit-fi speaker setups that would otherwise sound bass-lean, although being physically capable of producing thunderous, clean bass (as are full FR e-stat headphones, some of which actually do reach below 10Hz):

1. Pre-amplifiers (or first gain stage tubes in Stax amps) - CBS, RCA Black Plates, Mullard 10M, Mazda, Brimar are some examples of bass-heavy small signal tubes.
2. Interconnects - High quality pure copper interconnects (Cardas Clear, Beyond, Soundstring, for example) will tilt the EQ toward the sub-bass region, as compared to continuous cast silver or silver-clad copper. Dealers will typically showcase different brand's complete looms of cables in their demo systems, and allow their customers to borrow complete looms to roll in their home setups. This approach tends to sell a lot of cable, since the effects are often more than subtle.

The resulting change to sub-bass performance can be considerable, certainly much more than a db or two, depending on the particular setup involved. Because e-stats don't struggle in terms of technical performance (clarity, bass "tightness"), these approaches tend to produce very good results.

Some of these options are not terribly expensive, and many have been popular for some 70 years in the audiophile community.

not really
im near his order and Im still waiting too.....its taking forever
What's worse is that my BHSE had to be sent in for repair right after I ordered the SRX-9000. Shall we take bets on whether I get my amp back or my phones first?
