Does anyone know what the countdown on this Stax page should tell us? Is a new model expected?

Should be the new Stax Omega - or any other model name , as long as it's a new TOTL heaadphone.

The dealer tells me that the SR-009S needs at least 100 hours of burn-in time to sound really good. Can anybody confirm this?
Hmm 🤔 Estats in general don't need burn in, that said but need a 20 mins to 30 mins time from cold start to charge up completely and sound right 🙂

BTW, STAX always burns 009S in the factory before shipping them out, they reportedly have quite a strict quality check system.

I can only speak for my 007, since I've returned 009S due to a defect driver. There was no noticeable change in the first months. I expect a change in tonality as soon as pads soften over time, though.

I like the sr007 (2021 mk2, closed port, EQ) more, that's why I went for a refund instead of a new 009s. The 009s is impressive at first. Listening long term presented me with two issues. I can't listen to the 009/009s treble over a long period and my library has a lot of badly recorded content, which doesn't play well with 009s.

@Lord Rexter: Thank you, that's very interesting for me. I am a little surprised that the dealer tells me this burn-in time.
Your dealer will do anything possible to avoid you returning the 009S.

if I was in the market, I’d return my newly purchased 009/009S now and wait for the announcement / reviews. After all, the new omega might only be 1.75x the price of 009S

Ok so the cat is out of the bag, ~2x the price of the SR-009 when it launched 10 years ago. Given the deflation - inflation in Japan in past decade, I wasn't too far off :p .

Seems like Stax really did revive the original SR-Omega sound and it's apparently cleaner sounding than the 009S with better bass control etc so worth a look if you can stretch the budget accordingly. From glancing through the intro page, they mention the new electrode combines best of both worlds (damping and transparency from original omega mesh stator with the rigidity from the multi-layer electrodes first introduced with the 009). Also mention about 20% larger stator & membrane (same kind of plastic material as 009 series although thickness info isn't ever shared etc) which they claim contribute to a better perceived staging (early impression from the reviewer was it they felt acoustically transparent when worn as a result, this isn't going to be an open space type of headphone eh :) ). The housing is still machined from aluminum and headphone apparently feels lighter than 009 since it's same weight but larger in size.

I'd be seriously tempted ... if I was flush and still listening to headphones ;-p. Will experience it through you guys who will courageously take one for all of the us :).

cheers,
arnaud
