STAX SR-Ω (SR-Omega) '' The Legendary OMEGA ''
- Thread starter protoss

Lord of the Rings:
Omega #62 on the far right and Omega #61 inboard of that.
Owning 1 SR-Ω makes you top 1%, that post make you Top 0.5% haha
I had to find a true Omega to compare the hybrid to(62 has 007 drivers). Couldn’t resist reuniting the brothers for a family photo.Owning 1 SR-Ω makes you top 1%, that post make you Top 0.5% haha

So do all current Stax Omega have the SR-007 drivers? I've got a SR-L300 Limited Edition with my custom modded breathable earpad design for improved bass. Pretty satisfied with it, though I need to seriously upgrade my system around it and finally replace the headband.
Those are both Omega I’s in the the photo. The 007 followed and was nicknamed the Omega II. At least that is my understanding. I have no idea if that origin story of the nickname is correct.
They don’t make the Omega I any more so all the Omega II’s (current Omegas) have the 007 driver. I think that answers what you are asking?

Oh, that's interesting. Because IIRC, the SR-L300 Limited Edition also use the 007 drivers. I'm going to SoCal CanJam late this month and will probably have a chance to listen, as Stax will be one of the exhibitors.
Correction - they use the L700 drivers.

That doesn't sound right. The L-series uses a pill-shaped driver while the 007 uses a round driver. I thought the L300 Limited used the driver from the SR-L700 (flipped number order).Oh, that's interesting. Because IIRC, the SRL-300 Limited Edition also use the 007 drivers. You're right - it was established by Stax as seen here https://www.audioservicemanuals.com/s/stax/stax-sr/6428414-stax-sr-007-brochureThose are both Omega I’s in the the photo. The Stax Omega has its own unique drivers. Eventually Stax stopped selling the omega and when headphone drivers failed on the omega they replaced them with 007 drivers. Even though they were different size (omega were bigger), since they were also circular it fit the case.
Lambda lines have always used the same driver within their era. So for example the L300 /L500 and the L700 of current era are using either the same or at least a very similar driver. Same can be said for the lambda nova line (which was labeled basic, classic, pro) etc etc.
So no, Stax does not use the 007 driver on anything other than the 007.
Stax would have pretty much stop selling the original "SR-Ω/Omega I" when the company went bust after 1993.
All failed SR-Ω that was sent to Stax headquarter for repair thereafter would have been replace with the Omega II = SR-007.
As they didn't produce any SR-Ω drivers since the collapse in 1993.

I’ve been wondering about failure rate amongst Omega drivers so I decided to start a list. If anyone want to contribute PM me with serial number and whether it has Omega or 007 drivers. I’ll update as more info comes in.

Heavily considering the purchase of my very own Omega.
I'm between the Omega, Shang Sr., or HE-90. Not sure yet...

That's another very appealing trait of the Omega, I won't lie.A used Omega is the lowest price out of those 3 haha.
The most difficult part of my decision is knowing that I can't easily demo them all side by side.
Some people swear by the Omega.
Some swear by the HE90
Some, the R10.
Some also swear by the Shang.
Lots of options.
