Congrats on your purchase. Very informative. Excellent thread.

Seriously, I would've jumped on that deal had I not already reserved $300 for the upcoming Hornet. I couldn't believe it lasted that long. You got a Maha charger and batteries too right? That's an incredible deal.

This is a great time for new head-fiers who are looking not only for a great portable amp for cheap, but what I like to call the chance to acquire a "gateway" amp that can lead to bigger and better things. The SR-71 sounds great with portable sources, but to hear it get better and better as you move up the source ladder from portable to home, I believe it offers a tremendous value.

I started out with only Ipod and sr-60's. For some reason, I was attracted to the SR-71 and couldn't resist all the positive feedback and great comments on the SR-71's transparency and massive soundstage. I went out on a limb and purchased a SR-71. Then I realized I could use better cans, which led me to SR-225's, MS-2's, RS-1's, hd650's, and HP-2's. During that process, I realized I could get a home source that would sound better than my ipod and be more of a dedicated home rig, so i got the Jolida 100a, then I got my Meridian G07. The SR-71 was the gateway to all of that and it kept on getting better and better as I matched it with better and better components.

To think that someone can really get started (and spend a crappola of money lol) into this head-fi thing and dive head-first with a great amp at unbelievable prices, its a good time to be a new head-fier.

As a new member it is my hope that the Hornet acts as a gateway to (what I guess is considered) better audio listening). Currently, my line of thought is that because I'm in the Hornet reservation, the next amp that I'm looking at is for home usage. But I do intend to use it as a gateway much like recstar has with the SR71.

Pretty much the same here. If I wasn't down for the Hornet, I would most likely have picked up a 2nd hand SR-71 by now.

The Hornet sound suitable for me though, the type of music I listen to appears compatible with the description I heard about the Hornet. Plus, I want my first amp to be portable. Later down the line, if I am happy with the Hornet, I might look at Ray's other product (perhaps the SR-71v2?

I think its just because of how many were being sold at the same time, so the prices are dropping in order for theirs to sell quicker.

If there werent 3-4 sold this week, they would probably stay at the price you are thinking about.

I've seen several go on sale recently for $350 and that just doesn't make sense to me. Considering a new is $395, it's not worth the $45 savings. I'd just as soon get a new one then and get the warranty as well. So, the savings has to be enough or it's not worthwhile. I must say the recharegeable battery offer from ken36 was what really got me and made the deal worth it for me.

BTW i remember Ray's site says that warranty is transferred to second owners if this is your only concern...but I no longer see this in the warranty section

I don't think that was the issue raised. Say that was the case, you only get what is left of the warranty whatever that may be. And the item is -used-. So why not just pay the 10% to get a new product with full warranty.
[Its a completely different story if the product is only a few days old]

No worries, not taken as such at all. If I was hearing about this rather significant change for the first time myself, I'd likely be questioning the source.

I am not in a hurry for it to happen. I mean. Lets say he does a special early reservation deal for the SR-71v2 like he did the for the Hornet. If he releases too soon, it'll mean buying $650-700 (depending on whether he charges extra for the feature) worth of amps in less than a year

If only there was a way to make an ac attachment (that doesn't look like whatever kin0 did

) as an add-on for the current blackbird, that would just be killer. I'm sure if would sell like hotcakes.

I think a lot of people are waiting for compar-os between the hornet and sr-71. I think this is probably the case whenever a new headphone or amplifier is announced from a prestigious manufacturer, people want to hear the newest and best.

The SR-71 isn't any worse in comparison to its competition, because it's still at the top of the heap when it comes to portable amplifiers. However, with a new product coming out, and the upgrade-itis that infects head-fi members as soon as we hit that "Register Now!" button, it's a simple conclusion that the SR-71 will be worth a little less on the used market.
