I am looking for the best speakers, and cable (speaker cable) and my budget is 100 bucks

i would like this to include shipping, but I am now realizing that might not be possible.

i have looked into http://www.tsto.com/cgi-bin/TSTO.sto...duct/View/2191

but that is kind of pushing it

any ideas?

(for reference, my amp is a Sonic T amp, my phono stage is a nad pp2, and my TT is a Technics SL-Q3, RCA's were made by gil schwartzen)

IMO, no matter how fancy the design is, with a 4.25" woofer, you aren't going to get any real low end, unless you are perhaps doing near-field listening or have some crazy exotic enclosures like transmission-line's or folded horns, etc. Maybe you were planning on adding a sub, I don't know.

Here's some examples I would suggest:

I'd rather have the Pioneer bookshelf's with the 8" woofer than the ones you listed. And they're shielded. That's a bit more than the 69.99 sale price for the ones you suggested, but I wouldn't waste my money on exotic cable for use with a T-Amp... actually, I wouldn't waste my money on exotic cable, period. Just hook them babies up and GO!

i do not plan on using a woofer at all.

I have some monster cable left over from when my family bought our home theater, so i'll just use those (and buy some bannana plugs or something).

Will I notice a huge jump in sound quality from a 3 way speaker http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=250-680

or will it be alright to skimp and get the 2 way speaker? http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=250-675

thanks for your advice, it really didn't make sense to splurge on cables at this point.

Try the Home Depot 14 ga. orange power cord extension cables for speaker wire discussed on the Audio Asylum Cable forum.

will I notice a difference between the cables mentioned, and the monster cable i bought at best buy?

I really am not a fan of monster cable, and it was pretty pricy (but the only thing I could find, didn't even think to look at home depot).

I pulled the plug on some Athena AS-B1's, hopefully they are here before the weekend

Good choice at that price. Congrats! Dont push them too hard with the T-amp or the soundstage will collapse and you'll hear the distortion. I had that combo for a month but sold it. I liked it very much I just didnt spend enough time with it.

Where did you find that the cutoff level was?

even thought I had pretty sub par speakers, I am pretty surprised by the T-Amp.

How 'bout some Blue Jeans Cable 12 AWG speaker wire in grey for $0.38/foot?

Those Best Buy Insignia speakers aren't such a killer deal anymore for $85 + tax. The MSRP was previously $50 with the retail price dipping down to $35/pair until Best Buy discovered that they were selling like crazy and raised the price by 50%.

The Radiient OEM speakers with the external tweeter for $89 might be interesting, though.

Good luck terance, budget audio is the gateway.

Next try to find a decent vintage amp and use that t-amp for something else.
You can find a nice Kenwood or Pioneer on ebay for under $75 shipped.

i've seen some nice nads on head-fi and ebay for ~90 bucks.

I have the feeling I'll just save up for the entry level audio source.

i can feel it starting again
