Spanking new AKG K702 burn-in and bass

That harshness the 702s have does calm down when the pads soften. I'd wash them a couple times to help it along. Its been mentioned that the pads have an impact on the bass output. Our last meet, I was able to listen to a pair of 702s (about 100 hrs) compared to my 701s (maybe 1000 hrs) and I noticed the 702s were lacking bass and were treble boosted. The pads were pretty stiff.

Mmmm...let's see what this graph tell us.

1. Do the D7000 have a car sub?
2. LOL...the 650 are totally covered by a living bass tissue.
3. The HD800 want so....badly to sale HD with those crazy silicon bubies.

I still wonder what people are talking about when they say the 701 treble is "boosted". Comparing with the hd650 you might think that, but as you can see the response of the 701 is actually much more flat - staying very close to the 0dB mark from 40Hz - 10kHz.
Also, for interest look at the hd800. Looks very similar to the akg treble, but with an attenuated midrange. You can see the hd800 jumps about 8dB between 2kHz and 7KHz while the 701 jumps less than 3dB.

I don't consider these HeadRoom graphs reliable.

This one from Stereoplay...

...reflects my listening impressions much better. And indeed it's quite similar to that of the HD 800 (which doesn't mean much, though).

Would anyone with experience with the AKG K271 care to compare their response (especially the subdued bass and the rather sharp upper mids / low treble of the K701)?

I wonder if the K271 manages to avoid those response anomalies (which may or may not be attenuated enough to my taste after the full burn-in).

K702s like a recable, try some high end copper.

I may get flamed for this, but if you feel like the K701's lack bass in your particular setup why not try a little EQ?
