The first one roars, the second one whines.

About 80 MPH

Only 80? I'm thinking more like 210MPH!

Ever heard of this big nasty rally car called the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak version? Put that sucker on a nice long road and it'll sound like a rocket taking off. And when it hits outer space it'll be at 240 MPH
biggrin.gif

Then we got those scientific cars that can break the sound barrier...

Nah, it still does 0-30 on the first and then has to switch gears. The 5th and 6th are another story though.

That reminds me...the sound of a car sliding around a dirt road corner at 50MPH + is pretty cool too.

(no that ain't me...and if it sounds like I drove this car or something before, only in Gran Turismo 3.

Its made by a company called Davide Pedersoli & C.
Its a repro the 1809 Harper Ferry .58 flintlock.
I presume you can only obtain Pyrodex or some such,
You really do need black powder for these otherwise ignition
can be slow or not at all.
If you can obtain bp these pistols are challenging to shoot and contrary to popular myth ignition is fast, with a properly maintained flint, they encourage excellent shooting habits follow
through etc.
I hope your local laws where you are are sympathetic to shooting,
in the Uk you have to jump through hoops to aquire and keep
firearms of any sort.

If you are interested I have another bp pistol a revolver:
Colt 3rd model dragoon+ a 80% finished wheel lock mechanism,
I am making...wheel locks have to be seen to be believed,
I am so full of admiration of those craftsmen who made them
in 15-1600s.
Sorry nearly started ranting about wheelocks then.. a bit
of the subject of audio.

mmmmm.......wheelocks,

On the suject of engine noise have any of you heard or driven a
1/8th scale model circuit racing car?
These things are incredible[ yes another tech toy interest]
4wd,2 speed auto trans,full independent suspension,coil over
shock hydraulic dampers, adjustable anti roll bars, adj diffs,
3.5cc 3bhp 2 stroke engines that run on nitromethane doped
methanol fuel and rev to 40 000rpm!
They sound fantastic down a straight at 90mph!

So far then machines are ruling.. especialy that old fave the car
engine, in that vein I have an example that makes those others
seem like *****s a 5000bhp Funny car doing a burn out, leaving
the line or at idle,if it can be called that.

Hmm, here's my list, in order

5. A large deisel engine idling
4. A turbine-powered helicopter taking off
3. The sound a bolt-action rifle makes when it's action is worked (pump-shotgun is right along with this one)
2. Silence
1. The sound wet wood makes when put on a roaring fire.

setmenu, I was more into the off-road portion of RC cars, my electric could get up to 35mph on a fresh battery and new bearings. It had a great sound, along with a 12.5A current draw!

Nirtomethane engines do have a great whine, but the four-strokes are better IMO though, they sound less like a mosquito... If anyone is wondering the engines are measured most of the time in in^3 and are wonderfully inefficient.. Dangit setmenu, now I want to get back into that money draining hobby!

Hi
Idling deisels can be hypnotic can,t they.
I also like the sound of a sharp wood chisel gliding through the
timber.

Yet another one of my diy projects are a pair off palm sized
rc pan cars using slot car motors with truly evil winds
very_evil_smiley.gif
they draw 9amps unloaded totaly over the top.

These have yet to be finished, and were really made as an excuse
to mess around with titainium[I am a bit of a materials junkie]

Just not enough time and too much inspiration

Hittin the bong (bubble bubble bubble, woooosh).

Soft, sensual moaning (not the wild loud kind, but the gentle ones when you know shes lovin every second of it, lost in her own little world of bliss. nothing else is so cute and sexy at the same time).

Loud, high reving engines (i much prefer the screaming of a small, high reving engine to the rumble of a large, low reving engine).

Little brooks or streams (especially the ones with rocks makin the trickly sounds).

Waves (like em crashing against sand more than rocks).

A gentle, sporadic wind blowing through tree leaves (especially when thats the only sound i can hear).

The voice of a good friend not heard from in a while (especially the words "i love you" and "i miss you").

Birds singing (the pretty sounding ones, definitly not the annoying ones).

Rain falling (against tree leaves mostly, but it can hyptnotizing against the bare ground).

Laughter (hehehe).

My top 10 favorite sounds in no particular order. Id take any of em over a cd. But a lot of them have the potential to loose that little bit of magic if heard too much.

[edit: changed the last one because what i had before wasnt really a favorite sound, i just put it in so i could say top ten lol. but i thought of a good one so now this is my official list!]
