SOUNDAWARE M1(PRO) Portable Player with Proprietary FPGA Architecture

Will the tour take place in the US, Mary (@soundaware)? If so, the Esther Analog review unit you sent me can most certainly join the tour. I've already been passing it around to a few of my headfi buddies. So I'd vote for you to send M1 Pro. That way people can hear both. I know I'd like to hear M1 Pro in comparison to M1 Analog!

Will Soundaware be at Rocky Mountain Audio Festival in October? I'll be there this year. It'd be nice to stop by and say hello

Okay, if need your help, will tell you

Unfortunately, we won't be at Rocky Mountain Audio Festival. It's hard for us to join before we finding an agent in USA.
Anyway, hope you will bring more information of the festival then.

If you won't be there, I'll plan on bringing Esther Analog in case any of my headfi buddies want a listen!

Hi,  Can you tell me whether your M1 can be turned on only by long pressing the power button, even if you set the power off mode as Shut Down?

Is the battery of the M1 user-replaceable? Can the case be opened and the battery accessed easily?

Why do you want to change the battery?

Because it is the one component inside that will unavoidably degenerate and therefore limit device life time. As the M1 apparently gets rather warm in use (what I read in this thread) its battery aging is accelerated too.

To reply my own message: It seems that the battery could be reached rather easy, but the case seems glued shut.

See the images in this review:

which shows the opened case.

Soundaware: Can you please confirm this? Is the case glued shut or just fixed by some hidden screws?

Hi, the battery can be changed. But we don't recomment you change it by yourself. We can help you if you need.

Thanks, so the case is glued, and can be opened only by using an appropriate tool, right?

Don't worry, I ask because I strongly believe this adds value to your product. I expect my audio equipment to be usable longer than a few years and I think others do too.

(I even keep my Nakamichi ZX1000 tape deck in fully working condition even it is not used much these days).

With Power Key Setting set to Long Press Shut Down, I get a warning when holding down the power button that I will need to plug into USB to restart. However, I can restart without plugging into USB by holding down the power button for a bit - takes about 8 seconds or so. I did this three times to ensure it was consistent behavior.

It would be good to remove the warning and also to shorten the amount of time required to hold down the button for restart.

Yes, new M1 is already removed the note out. But yours is not, as I send you the sample unit, a little different.

To turn it on, only press for 3-5 seconds is enough, then wait for the screen lighting.
