I will not be posting until December 2018, unless at least one of certain demands is met. This would necessarily entail me not explaining my moniker in the meantime. Sorry. Until then!

To Whom it May Concern:

Seriously, my foremost alternative demand is that the no blind testing and no ABX restrictions be lifted from the rest of head-fi (that is, from all but the Sound Science section) because the stated foremost purpose of head-fi is to allow a respectful exchange of ideas. Current policies at head-fi actually result in the squelching of a great portion of the most respected ideas in the relevant fields of knowledge. What is needed is for people of different viewpoints to be respectful and to learn from each other, not to suppress many of the most relevant ideas in any part of head-fi outside of this sub forum.

Did you know the Head-Fi posting rules mandate this: 5. If what you want to post includes words/phrases like "placebo," "expectation bias," "ABX," "blind testing," etc., please post it in the Sound Science forum. And yet they also state this: Our forum rules have one major purpose: they allow a respectful exchange of ideas. These instructions and the expressed major principle are in direct opposition to one another. In my opinion, if you want to know why, in large part you can figure it out by following the money. We would all be so much better off if people of differing views learn to exchange ideas in a collegial way, rather than walling off much of the most well-established ideas and information from the rest of head-fi!

Another alternative demand is that 365 new posts with music be added to the Sound Science Music Thread: Pass It On! We start counting from @Laura80s music post on November 18, 2018. Why do you buy audio gear? So you can stare at it? So what do you listen to? Also, please write at least one sentence saying why you like the music.

Again, I will likely not post again until December 2018. I am perfectly aware some of you think this is a good thing, no need to state the obvious, and thank you for your support. See ya. I'm not angry, I just felt I had to speak up. One fact that does not take ABX or blind testing or reference to placebo effect or expectation bias to figure out: Many people from the rest of head-fi use Sound Science as hit-and-run target practice in an extremely immature way. Yeah, we get it.

Until then, to my kindred spirits:

There’s a better chance of Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster having a #1 dance single than seeing the rule on discussing blind testing and ABX being lifted from the balance of Head-FI. Beyond the inevitable arguments which go nowhere, the MOTs aren’t going to let it happen and there is a financial reality which enables Head-FI to exist that can’t be ignored entirely.

Not saying I wouldn’t like to see it happen, but realistically, not a chance.

Don't stir the pot on the rules, Steve. It only results in trouble for everyone. There are certain people outside of sound science that you don't want to mess with. Thankfully, they have kept out of sound science for a long time. It would be good to keep it that way.

the people who would have the power to act upon your "demands" are not reading this section(not that they would agree anyway).

And you don't want them to come in here and read stuff. Last time they did that, they started banning everyone. We need to fly under the radar. I'm not joking. I am serious.

Point well-taken. I've done what I could.

I applaud Steve for his thinking although I feel it'd be like debunking santa to a kindergarten. How many of those kids want the truth?
Most of em just want to keep dreaming about Einstein-Rose reindeers and the north pole.
Better just let people find out for themselves.

Steve is kind of a knucklehead sometimes, but even a stopped watch is right twice a day. He thanks you for the kind words. :)

No worries Steve. I often think about what fun it’d be to actually spread out these discussions in the open forum...but each and every time I remember my own feelings back when I still was in the ‘mo money mo sq’ camp..aaaand well yeah I had a hard time dealing with all of this - first and foremost because of all the dough I’d thrown after magic boxes.

Oh well to sidetrack things a bit: I was recently part of a little reviewing tour of a Slovenian made headphone called the Ollo S4. This can significantly changed the way I look at headphones in that it is THE first one I’ve ever tried with a flat response - as in pancake flat. I expected to fall asleep but was instead taken aback by the cornucopia of detail. Absolutely amazing!
As I’ve mentioned time and again in this forum, I am not scientifically inclined to wrap my brainskills around audio and indeed what makes it work...but I do pick up things from time to time and this Ollo can really showed me what the masking effect is all about. So many supposedly flat studio cans I’ve tried in the past have had spikes in either the mids or treble, some times both, and they don’t render detail at this level to my ears.

So long story short: seeing as I am down to only 7 headphones I thought it was about time to get another one. The Ollo is a tad pricey right now simply because Christmas is around the bend (and I just received a major bill!), so I ended up ordering the KRK KNS 6400 which too sports a similar flat panckae response...at a far cheaper pricetag...aaand it’s closed.
But yeah I am looking forward to hearing it and finding out whether or not my little theory proves to be right.

In all sincerity. I would actually like to see it the other way around, that the Sound Science forum becomes accessible to the wider head-fi community and that people with different viewpoints could come here for a respectful discussion. I would genuinely love for a part of head-fi to be truly about the science of sound, be it on a technological level for those who prefer that or dealing more with things such as the biology and psychology of music (something I am interested in). I just don't see that happening over here, so I keep most of my thoughts to myself because there is no one really to engage with.

I guess I am much the same way depending on whatever mad theories are being hawked in sound science. If it's the same old nonsense sneakily dressed up as something else, I tend to get a little irritated....and that happens all the time.
The dialogue turns to a hault or merely to the twilight zone every time people with actual knowledge and experience ask for proof of whatever claim happens to be on the menu.
I sincerely hope all the lurkers by now have seen this pop up again and again...and simultaneously ask themselves why it does happen.
To me, even as a complete noob, this speaks volumes about the level of hoops and weird cosmic analogies some people are willing to jump through in order to come out on the other side with their egos intact.

All of the above happens and will continue to happen regardless of what way a possible expansion of this forum will take. People will get their panties in a twist, that much is for certain.
So errm...remember NOT to wear pants the next time you engage in yet another heated discussion over face-phi?
