Sony Japan has not made any media announcement regarding the F800 till now. All the prevailing news regarding the F80x floating around Japanese websites have their source based on the announcement made by Sony Europe.

I will be particularly keen to learn how different its SQ will be when compared to their Xperia Ion/Xperia Acro S mobile phones since they share many things in common (except for the digital amp maybe).

can you tell us what the announcement was... ie model line-up & gb storage and if Flac is available as in the Euro-model.

it's the amp imo that makes the WM-Z so should be true of the F-Series.... SQ should be exactly the same for both.

The European model seems to have up to F806 (32gb). No sight of the 64gb model yet. It was said that it supports flac.

I'll be getting the new xperia phone next month. If this player makes the cut, I may consider getting it as well since I like its size. I'm only worried that it'll turn out to be a disaster sq wise like the A and the X series.

I thought you like the X in the past.  In any event, get the US or Japan version as they likely will have better sound.

A disaster? How?

I was wondering the same thing. How is the X a disaster sonically? I sure don't think so.... I've enjoyed mine for several years now.

i also have experience with the X and A series being a "diaster"--- both daps simply sounds boring to me. well at least its not as boring as cowon daps with flat/normal eq and without bbe enhancements.

the only sony dap that i liked the sound, and even gave more "WOW" impression more than the studio-V ("wow" impression) and the DX100 ("okay" impression) is the sony Z.

i wonder if the new sony line would sound the same as the Z? or as the A? since all 3 daps are using same technology except for their amplifier part.

The US version of the A and Z sounds nearly identical to me as the two DAPs feature the same S-master digital amplification.  If the A is boring, then the Z should be also.

Headphones out of course.  The sound isn't identical but share the same characteristic including the tonality.  I'm speaking of the US version of the Z and A865 btw.
