Sony's DSD-capable PHA-2 portable headphone amp/DAC

I'm wondering how Sony have solved the software when connecting to a computer, playing DSD especially. Will it work with JRiver or Foobar2000? Or have Sony made up a new music player? I love Foobar and it's my favorite player, I hope I don't have to replace it with something Sony quickly have thrown together.

I guess we will have all the answers on the 17 this month!

Sony has the program named "Hi-Res Audio Player" for playing DSD and 24 bit 192 kHz through their USB DAC. Also the program can't run if it doesn't detect any Sony USB DACs.

Do you mean it wont work if I just play 24/192 flac using foobar and set the output to Sony drivers e.g. wasapi?

It’s using xmos solutions just like other USB DACs and of course DoP is supported. What troubles me is that they are still using TPA6120 which means output impedance is still a issue.

looks to be XMOS XS1 for USB and PCM1795 for the DAC with an opamp output stage and a separate chipamp for the headphone out.

Appears to be quite well made.

Do they have a good track record with PHA-1? I see that there are so many PHA-1 being offload in 2nd hand market but not Fostex HP-P1....

The PHA-1 is good, but I do think Sony over produce it which cause the price to drop.

Not 100% convinced with that explanation

Me neither but who cares, as long as it sounds good, functions well, and the price is right, people will buy it.
