Yep I bought from eBay, think they were called angel eyes. Real leather, thicker pads than stock and sound better due to your ears being slightly further from the drivers (my ears used to touch the foam)

For those thinking the MDR-Z1R is discontinued, this is how it looks like surfing the web in Japan

So Sony is paying for advertisement for the MDR-Z1R. I know its not available in most countries outside of Japan but, it is still the current flagship and sold well inside japan.

The best sold Headphone by Sony in Japan is the MDR-1AM2, followed by the Z7M2 and the MV1. But given its price, its no surprise its not a best seller

Correction: When the sales numbers are corrected by the price (so an 1x2000$ has the same rank as 10x200$), the MDR-Z1R was 3rd place in 2022. So it is sold well

Agree, bought one a view weeks ago here in Austria.
Was manufactured in May 2023 with a serial number above 15.000.
For some time could not find a seller here in europe, was thinking to buy a used from Japan but including the taxes would have been the same price as this new one.

Use it with a wm1a and enjoy it a lot.

Seems like Austria is the only place in Europe that still has it. MediaMarkt, I believe. I asked them if they can ship it a bit west, and nope. So I had to get mine from the US. Serial number 148xx.

Strange business, MediaMarkt only sells the z1r in Austria. Not even in Germany wich is a far bigger market.
Ordered mine and got it the next day...

I fond that strange too, they dont even display on their phtsicalsyores high-end walkman models. Onlythese cheap ones that play only MP3/WMA, not even AAC lol

@Lookout57 you mentioned it some times, that you have a DHC prion4 and an adapter to use it between tge LCD and Z1R.


How much does an adapter coat? I want one for my Utopia which uses a 2-pin LEMO to use my Z1R terminated Lavri Grand

I've been using my Atrium Closed a lot. An excellent companion to the MDR Z1R.
