Can anybody directly compare the A3 with the EX1000? It's been years since I had the EX1000 and I still haven't found an IEM which I like better.

maybe @cuiter23 or @dweaver can help you, tho dweaver has the Z5 (which are a bit superior tto the A3, but similar sounding)

The EX1000 is completely different sounding than the 2. The EX1000 and Z5 are both more resolute over the A3. The A3 is funner but at the same time less refined and smooth.

Completely different sounding huh? That's pretty disappointing. What I really loved about the EX1000 was how beautiful, refined and effortless it sounded. If even the Z5 can't improve on that, then I guess I have to keep looking or go back to the EX1000.

The EX1000 is a relatively neutral sounding IEM. If you prefer that then you won't like the A3 or Z5.

Yes. I didn't spend a lot of time with the A2, but to me the A3's bass sounded lot better.

thanks... makes me feel better about them not being a "lemon" variation. People seem to say the A3 are bassier to the point that they are too muddy...The bass is better, but not as plentiful as the A2. The A2 is just overall warmer and intimate. The A2 is amazing in its own right but I just feel the A3 bring it to another level of refinement. At msrp i would not recommend the price difference, but if you find a good price they are keepers.

I found the A2 bass to be a bit too much, to me the A3 had a nice deep and punchy bass and overall had a more balanced sound. I briefly tried the ex1000, ex600, ex800 (7550), xba-4, and the xba-300 - I liked the A3 the most. I only tried them all very quickly and I'm not experienced enough to give a comparison - also, perhaps I was influenced by other factors, such as the ex600 cable being too long, and the appeal of a detachable cable + the A3's price was right. There were some really low prices on some old stock models like the ex600, ex800/7550 in Japan

I bought them to use with my Sony A15 player which is a bit weak on output - I tried it with my Oppo HA-2 and it gave the whole sound a nice lift. I shouldn't have done that as I like simplicity and don't want use with a dac/amp, hence the nice small Sony dap.

Same for my ZX100, I decided to sell my HA-2 to avoid the hassle of a "boner" stack LOL, and avoid cable mess
