SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?
Feb 22, 2019 at 1:24 PM Post #1,426 of 2,082
Well, I picked up a pair of XM3 today, sound so much more alive than the pair of XM2 that I demoed a while back!

Probably a question that has been asked and in turn answered 100 times, however mine are shown as "LE_WH1000_XM3", what does the LE stand for?

Thanks!

Shown where? On the box? The headphones?

Do you know this, or just guessing? Audio isn't even supported on Bluetooth LE (low energy).
The headphones actually have two Bluetooth concurrent connections to your phone.
The standard one which is used for audio and the secondary LE (which is Low Energy) connection which would be used for app connectivity etc.

I actually think it depends on how you pair the headphones with your phone (ie via the phones BT settings or the Sony App) as to whether you even see the secondary LE connection or not. I’m pretty sure if you pair via the phone setting you won’t see the hidden LE connection but if you pair through the app you will.

That could well explain it, the two connections thing - for example when first connecting to my TV the device listing shows as "LE", whereas in use the prefix is missing.

Good choice on the Sony’s, I bought mine for mainly for my holiday in the summer but using them quite a lot, love the warm musical sound they provide.

This is just something I thought I noticed yesterday after I updated my headphones to the latest update.
But it feels like my ANC has gotten worse? I'm never used to hearing people talking when walking behind me but yesterday after the update I heard it so clearly even with music (if the volume wasn't to loud).
I tried turning ANC on and off etc of course, just very weird. But might be a coincidence... Will see if I still hear people that clearly after more use.

Seems that the NC (rather than ANC) is fine... Not really convinced on the need for ANC - sure it'll have it's uses though.

Have to say I'm quite enjoying the dirty combination of these and Google Play Music via my Note 9, adding a little bit of fun that my portable rig is reticent to offer, preferring to "wow"...

For those that haven't seen the "LE", it is currently how it's connected to my Note 9 - LDAC...

Excuse me? I was only showing that it existed, and as I said in my first post - I thought it had probably been answered.

Guess someone isn't very welcoming in this thread, well - enjoy it without me.
