I know it was your point. I didn't try to refute anything, but just to clarify even more the experience and the irrelevance of the LDAC as a selling point for me.Hmmm, which is my point.
At those bitrates doesn't matter which codec you use.
The will sound better or worse, why exactly is so depends on many things.
I personally don't like xm4 and xm5 for their sound.
I think xm5 has wider scene with better center image, but it's not because of a audio codec.
Other companies make them sound better but have worse ANC.
Maybe it's impossible to create closed ANC headphones that are more to life.
But all of this has nothing to do with codec, unless the company will make it so.
If it sounds the same on all codecs, it means that the company is honest at least![]()

Took the plunge and got the XM5. They actually sound really good on stock EQ with AAC and I can definitely hear a difference with the LDAC when connecting them to my A55 and WM1Z. Well done, Sony.

Don't want to be misunderstand, all I'm saying is that ANC headphones is a different category audio.
And what matters in one regard, not necessarily matters in the other.

Yup, it's a marketing hype.I know it was your point. I didn't try to refute anything, but just to clarify even more the experience and the irrelevance of the LDAC as a selling point for me.

Hmmm. Comparing the Momentum 3 to the XM5, saying that the M3 sounds as good or better than the XM5 and drawing a conclusion that it means LDAC is irrelevant…Yup, it's a marketing hype.
Hopefully you and others understand that these headphones are tuned differently. The codec question is relevant if you compare the same headphones with the same music, same source, volume matched, and only vary the codec…. You may like one headphone over the other simply due to tuning differences…
Sure they are tuned different, but with regards to detail or soundstage, if a codec in theory better in resolution can't compete, what's the point, really?Hmmm. But... LDAC is irrelevant, I said (it's important to answer to what I actually said) as a selling point for me.
So, before you draw a conclusion, maybe you should take the time to read messages properly.
"Hopefully you" will take the time to develop some reading skills before showing such condescending replies.

I agree with the ANC being a different category. In the end, even if I like the M3 better for sound, I’ll keep the XM5 if I think the superior noise canceling makes up for the not as good sound. They are great headphones, for many reasons, love to use them.

All in all, even if sound isn’t great, it’s still quite good and much less bloated than the XM4, for example.
If only they were a tad more resolving…

Can’t tell a difference between AAC and LDAC with these. Marketing hype. You’d have to listen critically on much more resolving headphones to maybe notice a difference.
Then again, some people even notice a difference between stock-aftermarket cable sound so miracles do happen I guess.

Wow. Sarcasm much?Sure they are tuned different, but with regards to detail or soundstage, if a codec in theory better in resolution can't compete, what's the point, really?

In my last several posts I have agreed that for some LDAC won't matter because it isn't supported on their phones.
I have and will continue to disagree with calling LDAC snake oil or marketing hype as I do prefer it. But I also acknowledged that others might not agree.
Seems that may have offended. Not my intent.
I happened upon this thread hoping to see what I could learn about the XM5. Probably will come back another time

Did you perform a blind randomized test?

People’s ears are different. Not all will hear the same. Condescend all you want, but using my NW-A55 vs iPhone 11 Pro, we noted more differences in the mids. If you don’t hear differently, got it.Did you perform a blind randomized test?

It’s not condescending, it’s just to see if you accounted for psychoacoustics or placebo.

None for placebo. It seems like the AAC codec was meant to work better on these than LDAC, which makes it all the more bizarre. It’s not condescending, it’s just to see if you accounted for psychoacoustics or placebo.![]()
