Hopefully someone will be able to post the actual measurements, not just report on observations. I know that is probably hard to measure some things, but it should be very easy to measure noise cancellation.

There is a link in the review I posted a link to.

Well, after all audiophiles can hear difference from cables, so no surprises here. All you need just seed an idea into mind and imagination will take care of the rest.

No they all can't. I've tried many cables now from £30-£300 and maybe a slight difference pure copper vs pure silver with my 8 Ohm Shure SE846 as resistivity of cable could have a bigger impact on such a low impedance IEM.

It's very easy to test it for ANC .. it's really so different.. without login or with a google account, music sound quality is really impacted when we switch ANC.. with a sony's account it is far more acceptable, though it is still not exactly as without ANC sound quality.

Fortunately I never need to use ANC/EQ etc., so getting best sound & battery life. Passive isolation is great anyway even when cycling.

The difference in sound quality w and w/o ANC I can understand. The pressure it can cause in some peoples ears might have a negative impact on sound as well as experience. But being logged into the app… idk about that one

Based on how ANC works there should be no pressure. However, reproducing the lows of noise could already take up from the driver's capacity to produce additional lows from a song, so that might be an explanation. Hopefully this can be tuned in software.

Finally I convinced myself and bought them. I state that I come from experiences with Bose Earbuds QuietComfort II, ASTELL & KERN UW100 and now Pixel Buds Pro. As soon as I inserted them, the first impact was unsettling. Ok great presence and clarity in the highs and mids but the lows...oh my God. I'll try to get used to their timbre. The thing I liked the most was how easy it was to put them on. I had bought the xm4s and returned immediately. It was impossible for me to wear them. Fortunately, these are something else entirely. I did my usual jog this morning and they didn't budge a millimeter. I had a connection problem setting the priority on sound quality. My Honor magic 5 pro automatically sets the connection at 990 kbps and it's probably too much for bluetooth. I fixed it by setting the adaptive quality in developer options. I don't understand the various reviews and opinions praising the ANC. For me it is non-existent. Especially when compared to Bose or even Pixel Buds. In fact I took it off and the music sounds even better to me. I'm going to try them again trying to get used to the poor bass sound of Sony. We will see.

Yes, ANC distorts the bass, it's better without it..

I experience the same thing with NC set to off, that the sound is much better than having NC turned on.

I have always experienced the same issue even with older NC headphones from Sony (2005 - 2010) that were cabled. As you turned NC to on the sound was not so great and introduced a hissing cobra snake in the music, the otger HP when NC was off it sounded so bad that i had to use NC all the time.
I use ANC on the train.or when my partner has his music/TV programme that is not my interest

So... I tried logging in to the Sony app and the sound quality/signature with ANC On is now much closer to when ANC is turned off. Previously the ANC On setting made the sound overly warm and congested. It now sounds very close to the Off setting. Not sure what Sony is up to here.

I had the following issue when receiving a call on my iPhone:
For some calls (especially when I was the receiving party) the XM5 wouldn't switch to the call and both wouldn't hear.

I fixed this by going to settings -> Accessibility -> touch and there's a setting called "call audio routing"/"call audio output" . This option is set to Automaric, i changed it to Headphones/headset

I did not logon. But i was becoming annoyed thay i had to turn my iPhone Bluetooth on and pair the XM5, ause the walkman, open the App and select soind and then ANC settongs to tuen it off.

So i went to system and then ANC command (the single-tap action list) and only toggled the OFF setting to be selected. Now i can single-tap to cycle between; ANC> ambient sound > off. Withouth having to use the app to turn ANC off.

While testing LDAC with a DSD album on my DMP-Z1 for audio dropouts -— wich didn't happen -— i decided to try out the cycling by single tapping on the L earbud. I noticed that the sound quality of ANC set to ON was almost eqyal to NC being off
