I use gcc 3.3 on Mac OS X 10.3.8 to compile my reviews.

Do you do that from the command line? xcode is a pretty nice IDE.

Created a separate thread for this instead.Separate thread

SA1000

Compared to Sa5000,
similar soundstage, little less 3d
Not as detailed or transaparent
Less bass which makes the music thinner

SA5000

Comments from the review:
The sound is more like a labratory instrument than a Hifi headphone
The details and clarity is something we have never heard before...
The sony reveals everything in the recording
But the real strenth is on a nother level:
the soundstage, dept and 3d impression are excellent, it makes all other phones in this review sound dull and closed in..

Conclusion (other headphones was also in the reviiew)
If HD650 is the bentley of the headphoneworld the Sa5000 is the ultratechnical McLaren F1
Sure it's expensive but as headphone the 3d sens and soundstage makes the other headphones in the review sounds like the sound passes trough madrasses compared to the clear fresh mountainari that the Sony lets in...

translate from swedish.. hope it makes sense.

Grades:
1-10

FYI, the music grade is: Relates to possibilities for the headphone to sound good out of e.g. mp3 player and "fun to listen to", while hifi.. is hifi

Sa1000
Hifi: 7
Music: 6
Value: 5

Sa5000 (FYI, price stated in magazine 8000SKR which is $1200, so the value is clearly based on the wrong price...)
Hifi: 10
Music: 8
Value: 4

Amp used:
Harmony Design Ear 9
www.harmonydesign.se

they also used the sender unit of philips cordless SBC HD1500

-----------

Also tested:
HD 555
Philips SBC 1000
Pioneer SE-A1000
Technics RP-DH1200
HD 595
HD 580
Beyerdynamic DT 880
HD 650

Wow... that Swedish review sure was enthusiastic about the SA-5000! What amp, source, and music did they use?

One thing that continues to impress me about the SA3k is its upper mid-range (think high female vocals). It just reproduces this range so effortlessly. It's amazingly smooth - as smooth as the HD600, but in a totally different way. The SA3k gets its smoothness from its clarity and speed - the vocal is smooth because you're hearing it clear and true. The interesting thing is that I notice this whether the SA3k is being fed by my Grace or by my iPod or iRiver. The HD600 is smooth because, well, the Senn house sound is very smooth. But sometimes, and call me a Sony SA fan, I feel the smoothness is artificial. Seductive, especially with female vocals, but I dunno, doesn't grip me the same way as the SA3k's upper midrange does.

The bass and thinness on the other hand... well. While I like both the SA3k and HD600 straight out of an iPod, both are flawed out of this source/headamp that I can't really listen to it for more than 10 minutes before switching to better gear (e.g., the SR-71 for the HD600). The bass/thinness is the SA3k's fatal flaw.

Best,

-Jason
